Acoustic Memphis guitarist Bo Carter was born Armentor Chatmon on this
day in 1893. Carter was one of three Chatmon brothers in the 20s and 30s
Memphis Blues scene. His siblings Sam and Lonnie Chatmon were part of
The Mississippi Shieks, one of the most popular Jug bands from Memphis.
Carter had an unequaled capacity for incorporating sexual innuendoes
into his lyrics. Some of his hits "Banana in Your Fruit Basket", "Pin In
Your Cushion" and "Your Biscuits Are Big Enough for Me" made him one of
the most popular Bluesman in the 30s. He could get serious with the
Blues, too. His recordings were mostly just his voice and guitar. Carter
was the first to record the Blues standard "Corrina, Corrina". Bo also
recorded occasionaly with his brothers in The Mississippi Shieks. His
Complete recorded works are on 5 seperate CDs on the Document Label, but
his "Greatest Hits: 1930-1940" on Yazoo is a quality recording with the
meat of his best work on a single CD.

I thought I`d start a thread on Bo Carter. I don`t really know a lot about him. I have the Yazoo CD mentioned above, and have intended to delve a little deeper and get the Documant set for awhile, but just haven`t got around to it.
I like a lot of the Yazoo CD. Are there any Bo Carter fans on the forum?
