Hi
I have been playing fingerpicking blues for about 15 months now. Very hard to learn if you ask me. Must be one of the hardest type of guitar playing to become any good at. Even classical guitar playing wasn't as hard if I remember rightly. For one thing the finger picks! I tape them on now but it sure took a lot of experimenting to get them to stay on or produce any volume. Very nearly gave up on countless occasions. Anways I reckon I am getting the hang of some songs now. On my site are some recordings I made recently by listening to the music and then playing along with them. They are mainly if not all old blue songs of various types of blues playing and all from a book by Johnny Norris. He seems to have the same taste in old blues as I have and an immense amount of skill to back it up. My goal really is to make this rather cheap guitar sound melodic and to capture that 'bluesy' feel that is so elusive. Playing mechanically and trying to play just note from note doesn't give you that last touch of proper blues. That, I can see, is only going to come from very hard practise and experience. To sum up I love the old blues and intend to become a good player at some time or other - or at least give it my best shot!
