I'm a female blues singer of the etta james, Bonnie Raitt, and Koko Taylor variety. Didn't grow up listening to the blues but got hooked once I figure out who SRV's inspirations were. Of course, I lean towards the female ones; Nina Simone's buttery voice, Memphis Minnie's brashness and Sippie Wallace's staright forward good humor. My last band had about a 5 year stint and I loved it...but, as usual when you break the band rule of couples in the band, I left my husband, the bass player, and the band fell apart. After 5 long years, I think I've got one together again...no big egos...no addicts...all adults..NO COUPLES..loves the blues....just one anal drummer but somebody has to be to keep the rest of us in line. Besides all that I'm a computer geek, live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, am crazy about my attention deficit Border collie and just got engaged agin this past Christmas,(what amd I thinking!?!) Reading above it appears that you have all the ingredients (or seek them atleast) to qualify as either (1) having the blues....or (2) having the blues in the near future

Welcome to the forum! Great to hear about your engagemnet. I split up with my wife four years ago and am two years into a wonderful new relationship and new chapter in my life. I don't feel really qualified to play the blues coz i'm too happy! Hope you are too.

Welcome to the forum Bluesjuls !
I don't think there really are rules about this couple in the band thing.
Some couple have parted because one was on the road while the other one had a day job and got sick and tired of finding an empty home after their working day, others have secured both their relationship and financial situation this way.
I've seen duos composed of husband and wife on the road for years and still working fine, both musically and the relationship.
Maybe the duo thing works better than the couple in the band thing ?
I don't know.

Still, I wish you the best on your blues singer path and again, a warm welcome here at the BBF.

I've been a little concerned about being around so many men here, so welcome indeed. Do you pronounce that blues jewels?
Might I suggest my favorite Bonnie? Bonnie Bramlett.
