Just purchased this one today and listening to it right now. It features 2 solo acoustic numbers along with interviews and his live performance from the Electric Ballroom in Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. This reissue is on the Shout Factory label. This sounds to be a good one for those who haven't purchased this in the past. Anyone out there care to add there thoughts on this Freddie King reissue?

I think this was the second Freddie King CD I bought. I enjoy it quite a bit. The two acoustic bits definitely make the CD well worth the purchase price IMO.

I have the same session on Topcat Records, one of the most incredible cds that are underappreciated IMO , including acoustic cover to Jimmie Rogers' That's Alright and some of his classic recordings. The liner notes says it was gathering dust for 20 years, go figure.

All the above written is in my opinion unless it is someone else's opinion, or a fact.

I've got that one, Tom, and it's great. Freddie being his usual, bombastic and mind-blowing self. And the acoustic tracks are great. Another goodie is this recent release:

This cd has some good stuff but among his later work I like "Larger Than Life" and the memorial lp.

Ooooh...look at that Goldtop!

I play a Les Paul because that's what Freddie played. I was lucky enough to be in the band that opened up for him in the early 70s in San Jose, CA. Got to jam with him a bit too. I had him autograph all of my Freddie King albums on the original King label.

When I first started to learn how to play guitar, you didn't work until you learned "Hideaway". That was it.

Freddie live is quite simply some of the best blues ever. I always have a Freddie track in the "3 Kings" portion of my radio show, which is B.B., Freddie, and Albert. I'd like to see all of his King releases in a Box Set so it could be all there for everyone, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

That's awesome you got to jam with him. He passed away before my time but I hear he was a very nice guy, especially to the young guys in the blues.

I was and much later I was lucky enough to run into Jr. Boy and he had some great Freddie King stories from when he was a young man playing in his band. Gregg Poulos who is also from my hometown of Sarasota has some great Freddie King stories too - he played second guitar with Freddie for a year or more until the time of his death. Gregg has a way cool pic of him standing between Freddie and Muddy. If you are ever down hea in FLA be sure to check out my buddy Gregg...

I dusted this one off (am listening as I type). Musically it's brilliant. But is that interviewer for real?

"Can you play that axe?" "How old are you?" "Who wrote that song? (That's Alright)"

Pretty easy to overlook that, though, as soon as Freddie starts playing

I saw Freddie King play in 1974 at Mother Blues in Dallas, He was, needless to say, great.

I have never posted Here in post blues But I saw Freddy Kings name and had to check it out As I have said many times He (Freddy) is My favorite blues player for ever always and all time I love what he does and the way he plays.

My personal favorite work was Best of Freddy King Produced my Leon Russel and Danny Cordell Released in 1975 It has my favorite version of Woman across the river on it and is IMOP the best of his works. The recording quality is far better than most works before Leon Russell has plenty of money I guess. But he (Freddy) was brilliant on this project.

I have it on vinyl (don't even know where my old turn table is any more) so I haven't herd it in a long time.

I was lucky enough to see Freddie twice. The first time was in the late 60's (I think) on his first visit to the UK. He was backed by Chicken Shack. The venue was a small 'club' ( pub back room actually) in South London. I never looked at Clapton ,Green etc in quite the same way after that.

The second time he brought his own band (Deacon Jones etc). The show was much slicker but not as heavy on the classic tunes. At one point he invited Stan Webb up to jam on Hideaway. Whether you like him or not, Stan certainly had absorbed Freddies' music. The last show was in London's 100 club. A great blues venue.

I am sadly uneducated on Freddie, I only have one cd of his, and I bought it off of my guitar teacher. It is amazing, though. Its a collection of 24 instrumentals called Just Pickin'. His playing is amazing, but I really want to hear his other side.

Freddie is it. I was lucky enough to see and hear Freddie many times, and he played and sang with such power. Just tremendous. Somewhere there is a video of Freddie playing acoustic while walking around in the Travis County Jail in Austin. He was visiting, not incarcerated.

Regarding the above "Freddie Footage"

I love the look Freddie gives the drummer when he comes in too early with the "big fill"! Other than that, this is some funky stuff, and I bet I watched it about 15 times straight. Bassplayer has that Carol Kaye thing goin on. Dig that Leslie behind the organist. Great stuff!! Since I didn't graduate from High School till '81, I missed out on these years and never saw Freddie live. Would have been awesome I bet!

Tom is this album as funky as that footage? Seems like the right era, but I noticed different garb on the album cover. The album cover looks like late 60 or early 60's?
