I beg you all pardon but I didn't recognize this thread in Blindman's Cafe until this evening because I don't look into every separated room of Blindman's Forum each day. One reason is that I'm not interested in some threads and the other reason is that English is not my native language and so, I take my personal choice what treads seems interesting for me to read and where to post and reply. There are so many postings each day.

I think there isn't much people interested in discussing gospel music and there is no need in creating a seperate room for gospel music. My computer knowledge also is very basic and I would be overcharged being moderator of a forum (thanks, Tom and Steve!). I think threads about gospel music also could be discussed in The Blues Hangout for there has always been room enough for a lot of different musics besides blues.

When my interest in gospel music started more than forty years ago, over here in Germany always jazz and blues enthusiasts also had been interested in this music, too. German authors of books about jazz always also included chapters about gospel music and blues, too. It just was naturally that blues enthusiasts also knew about gospel groups and bought those rare records available over here. Blues lovers kept the interest in gospel music alive and Lippmann & Rau, who started the American Folk Blues Festivals in 1962, also brought three American Spiritual and Gospel Festivals in 1965, 1966 and 1967 over to Europe. So, my interest in Black music started with gospel but very soon I also recognized the blues. My first LP was the American Folk Blues Festival-LP in 1964 and I saw this festival in televisoin before I first saw the 1965 Gospel Festival there. I also saw the Blues Festival in 1967 before I saw - a few weeks later - the first time gospel singers on stage; this was the 1967 Gospel Festival. I only can agree about connections between both genres of music. Besides different shades of living religion and a Christian life, a lot of blues singers always went to church on Sunday as a personal need. Just some thoughts about blues, gospel music, its listeners, its enthusiasts and its relationship.

Olden Rong, yes, "Say Amen Somebody" is a great documentation about Dorsey, Willie Mae Ford Smith, the O'Neal Twins and the Barrett Sisters.

All I can say is, I will join in every thread about gospel music and give informations that I have. I know there are some people here, also knowing a lot about this music and they will further my progress, too.
