I see where Wal-Mart is selling individual track downloads for 88 cents each.

I looked into this a little bit at Christmas, Les. Be careful - as I understand it they will only play on the little WalMart music-cube, available for $125 or so. (In other words, I don't know that you can DL them to a PC or laptop). I could be wrong on that, but be careful.

(I must say they had a better selection of tunes than I expected.)

Never put off til tomorrow what you can do the day after.

Les, a basic emusic subscription is $10/mo or .25 per song. worth looking into if you don't mind the monthly charge and you can cancel anytime you want. Keeps me from spending bill money on cd's.

Yup, emusic is the best value out there. The downside is that a lot of major artists have yet to sign on, but lovers of the blues will find more than enough great blues music to keep them downloading from here to infinity. I've subscribed to emusic for over 2 years now, and I still have a hard time deciding on what I'll spend my downloads on each month.

yep, no major labels but that's fine with me. Most of the stuff I'm after is on the smaller blues/jazz and re-issue labels anyway. I do wish they could work a deal with Blue Note.....but then I'd be a downloading lunatic.

I'm feverishly awaiting the day that they get the Chess catalog. It will probably never happen, but I would be a downloading junkie. I'd have to quit my job to watch that downloading bar all day long. LOL

As it stands, though, they've got Yazoo and JSP, and just those two alone will keep me busy for the next few years. LOL

So with this here emusic, Does one have to spend at least $10 every month? For me that is out of the question, no way I am going to spend $10 every single month for recorded music.

yes, that's the cheapest plan. Or you can sign up, get the 50 free songs and then cancel if you want.....or pay the 9.99 for the 1st month then cancel after the month is up.

That would be 90 tunes for 9.99. Not a bad deal.

Of course, by then you're an emusic junkie and realize 40 tunes a month is just not enough cause you have to have all those JSP 5 disc box sets......

Yeah, it's a subscription service, so if you sign up, they're going to keep charging you $9.95 a month until you cancel. Like 4onthefloor said, though, you get your first 50 downloads free.

And you'd be amazed at how fast you burn your 40 downloads every month. I'm thinking of bumping up to the $15.95 a month plan. I'm lucky I'm only on a dial-up; if I were on a DSL, I'd download my monthly subscription in one day. LOL

Well Maybe I will sign up for one month and get the 50 free plus 40 more and then quit. Like you said , 90 songs for ten bucks is pretty good. I wouldn't just grab the free 50 and jump ship with out paying anything though, that would be too fuzzy ethics, too close to stealing or cheating or something. God keeps blessing me with so much I don't want to go stealing stuff. I am certainly no angel but I do try to adhere to something sometimes.

Hey, Les -

You had mentioned in another thread how much you were digging John Lee Hooker's "Jack O' Diamonds." One thing that might blow your skirt up is John Lee Hooker's Early Recordings, which is a JSP box set that they have for download at emusic. It's EXCELLENT!

Please don't buy anything from Wal-Mart, especially music. Cool indie stores that actually sell good music are hurtin' all over the place. Besides, they're a lot more fun to hang out at tthan in front of the computer or in a Wal Mart.

Amen to that. They also sell edited CDs and refuse to sell some CDs that they decide are offensive.

Hanging out in front of the computer can be fun, though. That's where I can find this place.

With this dial up connection It takes way WAY WAY to long to down load songs any way. usually 25 to 30 min. I use to pick up good blues at an old flee market on ORTIZ in Ft Myers from two older Lady's they had a small building there and it was loaded with good music and very good blues.

In this part of Oklahoma it is Wall Mart Or Hastings (they both suck) and there ain't any good stores around here.
