Hi,
It's been over a year since I've posted... had a lot of things that interupted my attention here, so... I'm hoping to stay in more regular touch as of now, at least I'll have more time to participate after 1/06.
I was Howlin' Wolf's friend, photographer and harmonica student. So you know, if you don't already, I offer rare and iconic photos of Wolf and newly re-issued Howlin' Wolf business cards (and at substantial discounts to forum members, see Trading Post section posting)
As far as some of my experiences, they're depicted well in a very moving 10 page story about how I met and worked with Wolf (and Arthur Crudup, too) is on my website www.howlingwolfphotos.com and I'm working on other pieces about the other guys I knew and played with. I'll be posting them in January.
I've played drums (and got to know) a number of the blues fathers: with Wolf (on nightstand "drumset" during a taped harmonica lesson/interview, partly quoted in the Pantheon biography "Moanin' At Midnight,") as well as in concert with Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, Mance Lipscomb, Sonny Terry and Brownie Mcgee.
I got away from music (except writing some material as of yet unheard) after the Loma Prieta earthquake and simultaneously getting robbed of royalties by a French record company, but am finally about to get back into getting my stuff published again, hopefully, and possibly performing.
I'm VERY interested in turning out a demo disk with any local (S.F. CA Bay Area) talent of my original (quite "classic" sounding stuff) materials (various roots genres) some of which was asked for in 1999 by Muscle Shoals but the project got interupted when I had mercury poisoning - but that's resolved now... although I don't yet know if my contact with them is intact, but anyway...
I'd be happy to get email or comments directly regarding Wolf or whatever here or even better at my personal email howlingsandy1@netzero.net
I hope to have the time later by next or mayyyybe this month to delve into forum postings, as I know there's a number of people here I'd like to know better and many topics of interest...
As for now, I'm just catching up on this and so much else... as for the "sprinkle of spam" (if that's how you see this) - although how anyone can think my stuff of Wolf can be "spam" on a website such as ain't making much sense to me - especially given what else I have or point to and that such is freely available, both here and on my site... costs nothing to look and read, and you can pop those 99 photos up pretty big too...
Yes I DO keep my watermark/name on them, having found 14 CD's using my famous photo of Wolf on the cover in the last 2 years (most were gotten from Pictorial Press, UK who is now aware of my intellectual/artistic property) and most were thus "unintentional infringement" in times past re that ONE photo. The few intentional infringements are now being dealt with, or will be soon. But a few years ago it was like a half time job to trace those users and their source of my image of Wolf.
Best regards, and wishing all a joyous and meaningful holiday (fill in your holiday/s of choice) season...
Howlin' Sandy Schoenfeld
PS: I posted this in "Shameless Plugs" section already, and a few self-righteous and unrealistic poor readers seemed to think I was spamming...
It was probably the wrong section to "re-introduce" myself in, so posting it here...
On the other hand, if "shameless plugs" generated some's attempt to "shame" me, I wonder what I'll get here... my work and record speaks for itself, and I won't reply to negativity or misconception again, just too busy trying to save the world and make my rent, while writing songs... good ones too, that's why Wolf asked me to write one for him (if I say so myself). Maybe some members will want to connect with me on that matter...
If you don't trip on the fact I do sell wonderful ICONIC stuff involving Howlin' Wolf, and I can't not mention that part... you'll also hopefully see there's a lot more I address and plan to further do so, when I have the time.
I've attached a photo that's not yet on my website, the "missing photo" found last year... titled "Reachin' Out With The Blues" (Wolf and a younger Hubert Sumlin, from 1968 which will be featured in a book by Debra De Salvo coming out in February) It's one of my favorite and shows some of the energy of Wolf (with Hubert) in concert.
