Deepest Blue Posts: 102 Sep 10 05 11:46 AM	Hi, SonHenry This sounds good to me as many musicians will have lost the tools of their trade and if we can help to get them working again, in any small way, that would allow them to supply food for the soul by their music as I assume that with the massive effort going on at the moment, by the time we are organised, most people will have recieved food and possibly accomodation of some sort. I know that my equipment was never insured when I was gigging and the loss of an amp which luckily only happened once was a major blow. I know that every musician should be insured but I found that it is one thing to cover loss from your home but if you are on the road the cost shoots up mightily.

Deepest Blue Posts: 18977 Sep 11 05 5:22 AM	I'm not sure I'm entirely tracking with the thread here, but I'll say this: I was deeply touched by the news that Mem Shannon, although safe and okay, has lost at least $4000 in local (NOLa) gigs over the next couple months, in addition to losing all his and his bands' equipment. They have vowed to keep their gig dates, even with no equipment. They say they'll make it happen somehow! My thought is, there is alot of worldwide effort to the victims, but the loss to musicians (even though they are largely accounted for and safe, which is the primiary concern) may have lost their very livelihood...the ability to travel, to gig, to continue doing what they are doing. It's encouraging to see the world coming to the aid of the victims, but it will ultimately be up to musicians and music-lovers to take care of the musical heritage of NOLa and MS. Those folks may have no one else to turn to. Let's be there for them! Never put off til tomorrow what you can do the day after. Colorado, USA

Posts: 261 Sep 12 05 1:45 AM	OK I may be a dumb SoB but are you all talking donating cash or having a fund raising concert, or both or more? It sounds like a good idea, but a concert should be internet accessible, as it won't get on TV and I suspect that most of us working stiffs won't be able to attend. As I said, if I'm off base here, please let me know. I have suggested a fund raiser throughout the state of Iowa and some folks are working on it, but is this international? Obviously it is, since this is an international board. Sorry to sound so confused, but I have lived my life that way and it's too late to change now. Seriously, if there is a fund set up to help out NOLA musicians, I will give something. Thanks.
