Yeah, the AFBF performances were not really an example of his showmanship, since, like you said, he was relegated to a tiny stage with no where to go (probably for filming purposes), but I thought it was an awe-inspiring display of the intensity he would put into his performance. He couldn't do his regular crawling and rolling around and moaning thing, so instead, he seemed to focus that energy into a very passionate performance. I mean, he's pouring sweat halfway through the first song, just sitting there! All of the energy he'd normally expend seemed to be bubbling up inside of him, and got channeled with laser-like intensity into the song.

The Howlin' Wolf Story DVD gives a little bit more in the respect of stage antics, as you see him licking at his harmonica and guitar as if he's going to eat them, and waving a $20 bill. But that's also a performance where he's sitting and confined by a tiny playing area. His Shindig perfomance showed a little, too, especially when he gets his 300-pound ass shakin' like jelly on a plate during his harp solo. Aside from a few pictures and a ton of fan accounts, we probably won't get to see his full "tail-draggin'" theatrics firsthand.
