Ok, it had to be done. How about it jazzers? What are some of your fav Blue Note recordings from this era? A few of mine to get things started, more later.

Lee Morgan - Search for the New Land
Horace Silver - Song for my Father
Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage
Hank Mobley - Workout
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Mosaic
Larry Young - Unity

Hey Tom -
I owned and LOVED Lee Morgan's "In Search of a New Land" - haunting, moody - beautiful !

Horace Silver's "Song for My Father" is such a great tune - the last jazz gig I worked, I talked the boys into playing it. Same with "Maiden Voyage" . . . classic jazz - like 'Moanin'' . . .

I had most of my vinyl in storage due to the Earthquake in 1994 here in LA -
I know there was some Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Smith, and Freddie Hubbard's "First Light"among others, but, whether they were on Blue Note ? It's been awhile . . . oh, maybe, a Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington LP - a Duet collection was on Blue Note.

BTW, can you tell me, who wrote Maiden Voyage?

Herbie Hancock wrote 'Maiden Voyage', I just realized I have one of you CD's 'Bettin' On You', 'Room at the End Of The Hall' is excellent stuff.

I have a shed load of 60's Blue Notes but my favourites are as follows.

Larry Young : Into Something (Sam Rivers and Grant Green are awesome on this and Elvin and Larry are no slouches either)
Cecil Taylor : Conquistador! (Taylor with IMHO one of his best bands, my wife jokes that this is the CD to put on if you want to finish a party I say let's get the party started)
Wayne Shorter : Juju (worth it just for 'House of Jade')
Sam Rivers : Fuchia Swing Song (Never far from my player this the interplay is amazing)
Grant Green : I Am Blue (Another Sunday morning CD so laid back it forgot to get up)
Ike Quebec : Heavy Soul (Iprefer this slightly more up tempo recording to the more delicate 'Blue and Sentimental')
Art Blakey : Indestructible (the two Curtis Fuller penned tracks 'The Egyptian' and 'Sortie' are among my very favourite Blakey tracks)
Andrew Hill : Grass Roots (the CD re-issue has two amazing bands playing the same tracks and it's hard to choose the best one. One band has Booker Ervin on tenor but the other has the delightful Woody Shaw on trumpet)
Ornette Colman : At the Golden Circle Vol's 1 & 2 (A must have for any collection a world class trio live at the very top of their game)
Bobby Hutcherson : Dialogue (At times a difficult listen (not as much as Taylor, admited) but a fine recording with masterful solo's from Sam Rivers, Andrew Hill, Freddie Hubbard and Hutcherson himself)
Kenny Burrell : Midnight Blue (just marvelous)
Dexter Gordon : Our Man In Paris (with Bud Powell and Kenny Clarke)
Joe Henderson : Page One (It's Henderson's date but the two Dorham tracks stand out by miles)

that piece with John Coltrane (?)

I'm surprised to hear you have Bettin' On You

The sales have been underwhelming, so far

As for Room At the End of the Hall, I appreciate you liking it. It was fun to write.

And, I've got something in that collection by Grant Green. I used to listen to guitar players - the musicians I worked with required it

. Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, - Howard Roberts.

Karyobin, you are a wealth of information - you certainly keep things moving here in the jazz club.

Having a little bit of A Cecil Taylor moment and realized I left a few off of my list Unit Structures is a vital addition to all Taylor collections.
