The recent post about Otis Spann got me thinking about his subject. I'm not thinking about guys who lived long and fruitful lives, and died at a relatively advanced age; we saw them get old, knew them as old people, so they'd just be older old people now. I'm thinking more about people who left us at a young age, who could conceivably still be around today, because it gives more to consider when thinking about what they might have done if they'd had the time. A short list of people who if they'd lived, could possibly have been playing a festival near you this summer:
Freddie King would be 70
Guitar Slim - 78
King Curtis - 71
Baby Face Leroy Foster - 82
Slim Harpo - 81
Earl Hooker - 75
Elmore James - 87 (OK, I know that's stretching it, but hey, Lockwood is still playing at 90, so why not Elmore?)
JB Lenoir - 76
Little Walter - 74
Magic Sam - 68
Junior Parker -73
Jimmy Reed - 79
Scott (no, I'm not part of the list.)
