Well hello, I'm new to this board. Just looked at most of the postings on introductions and I must say am very impressed if not a little daunted.
You see I am not a blues player....just a listener. I allways had 'leanings' towards the blues, fairly main stream stuff...John Lee Hooker, Billie Holiday. Then I heard Robert Johnson and I was hooked. My tastes have matured, along with age and appreciating fine red wine. Came across Son House recently and now am 'hungry' to discover more about his contemperies
(Willie Patton,Mississipi John Hurt, Big Bill Broonzy, Johnny Shines, Sonny Terry....)
My partner is a guitar player, mainly folk and traditional irish, however dabbles a bit with 'in the style of' and does a lovely renditon of 'Let the Mermaids Flirt with Me'
Most Summers we try to get in 2 or 3 music festivals (we would go to more but the children resist after 3!) and found a lovely one called 'Blues on the Farm' in rural West Sussex. This year there is a very international flavour with Eric Bibb(USA) Geof Aichison (Austrailia), Studbaker John Grimaldi (Chicago), Antonio Forcionne Quartet (Italy) Guy Davies (New York) Connie Lush (UK) and loads more. All washed down with good english real ale and fine sunny weather (we hope!)
Anyway I would really appreciate any information about 'whats good to listen to' especially for a beginner like me and am looking forward to just keeping an eye on whats going on, a good distraction from the slings and arrows dont you think!
