How do you focus? There's so much to learn I find myself scattered about. It's everything from musicians to study, songs to learn, even dialing in tones I like with amps. Sometimes I feel I'm spinning my wheels. Do all the pieces and parts come together eventually? Have you ever felt this madness?

Well Sir You can't do it all in one day. Just concentrate one one song at a time As you learn more songs you will find them to be alike If You Know Johnny Be Good you know thousands of different songs. Blues Rock And Even some Jazz. Now as you learn other songs you will find them to be alike There are Many Similarity's

Just don't get in a hurry take your time and enjoy what you know and your knowledge will settle your Mind. And replace it with Confidence

A river runs through my town and on those rare occasions that I have to go to it I find it a very relaxing,calming experience one that helps me sort out the things going on in my mind. If no river is handy,Julian's advice seems good-one thing at a time.

Everybody looks good at the starting line. Get on your mark,get ready but you better keep this in mind. You can hit the ground running like you're shot from a gun but going the distance is the hard part son. Everybody looks good at the starting line.

I remember once walking by the seaside. It was winter and the beach was totally desert. Then the rain started falling, and watching its drops hit the surface of the water was quite a soothing experience. So much so that I still remember that moment, even after 40 years.

I have tinnitus so peace/calm and quiet are a thing of the past. I just keep powering through as much as I can while trying not to get distracted by less important things. Limit my time on the BBF to a minimum and keep focused on the big things that could really bear fruit. Its a balancing act between doing the things I love, reading, listening to music, playing guitar, and then doing the things I have to do to support my lifestyle. I try not to let too many plates drop.

Thank you neighbor. This is kind of what I meant. I wondered how many other folks have been here. It seems to be the electric thing that has me bumfuzzled most. I grew up playing acoustic instruments. To be honest most of the folks who taught me growing up grumbled about anything electric as rubbish. Years later I kind of branched out into it on my own and have a whole new respect for anyone who ever picked up an electric guitar. There's a much bigger learning curve than I ever imagined.

Just making noise I guess, mixed with a little conversation.

i had to just pay attention to whatever was at hand and let everything else sort of take care of itself. the devil is in the details.
any pursuit is about getting the building blocks together and then stacking them just so. i can tell you this, even into my 5th decade of involvement with music, i still have a lot left to learn, more than i have time to achieve probably. but it's the pursuit that's the thing. the way i see it these days, i am going for the long ahul, the rest of my life, i will be playing and singing as long as i'm able, so i am not in that big a hurry. i know enough right now to pull off a night or 3 in a row out live, or to busk on the street, or to write and arrange new material and work it up with my partners.

everything in its own time. if you focus on the task at hand and get one aspect at a time as good as you can make it, then you can move on to the next thing. over time you can look back and be amazed.

This strikes me as a very good way to get focused - song by song. Work on getting a song ready to deliver it the way that you want to deliver it. Then you can give a consideration to what kind of special effects might be appropriate.

Of course your ramblings are interesting, Dave.

I love to hike through the woods or ride my horse. Either brings me peace.

As far as focusing on music, I just work on one song at a time. I try to totally immerse myself in that song while I am working. One new thing builds on another. Eventually, you get better. I figure that if I keep learning, I am bound to get pretty good if I live to be 82........
