I have been going to a local town festival for a number of years.They have food,music,games and rides and all the typical stuff you would expect at one of these things.The cool thing about this festival is the organizers do a pretty good job on entertainment.They have had performers from a broad spectrum,everyone from Eric Burdon to Dicky Betts to War..Last night they had Dave Mason and his band perform.Some of the time some of these bands kind of just go through the motions when they play a small town gig like this.Dicky Betts is a good example of this.I saw him a couple of years ago and was quite disappointed with the effort.Dave Mason showed me that despite almost 45 years of playing he still seems to love what he does and does it well.Starting off with a couple of tunes from his early days with Traffic,he played a few songs from his long career and even tossed in a couple of newer tunes.Of course he had to get down to business and kick out the blockbusters like "Only You Know And I Know" and after that invited a "local" guy on stage to help with "Feelin Alright"..The local guy was Chicago's Ronnie Baker Brooks..He and Dave's other guitar player smoked through that tune like I never heard it before.And for the encore Ronnie came back on and blasted though"All Along the Watchtower" with Dave playing some amazing guitar.
Just a great night,and when you can see a legend of sorts still giving his all it makes you walk away happy.

I've always liked Dave and I hope I get to see him at some point and time.

Everybody looks good at the starting line. Get on your mark,get ready but you better keep this in mind. You can hit the ground running like you're shot from a gun but going the distance is the hard part son. Everybody looks good at the starting line.

I don't know why, but I always thought that Dave Mason always sounded better than I thought he would. Still, whenever his shows were announced, I always tried to make his gigs. Never saw a bad show by him.

Why is it that everytime I see a recent picture of a musician I used to hear 40 years ago, their hair always seem to have slipped from the top of their head to their chin ?

Mason Capaldi Wood and Frog.
They supported Hendrix at the Albert Hall in 1969, can't say I remember much about them, but I was there.

Been there, done that! The 1974 Led Zeppelin show at Tampa Stadium for years held the world record for the largest crowd ever to see one band but thanks to certain psychoactive fungi I remember very little of it!

The biggest blackout concert I attended(notice:I didn't say I remembered going to) was a Emerson,Lake, and Palmer/Yes concert about 1971 or so..We had tickets for the second show which was supposed to start around 9PM. There was trouble with a bunch of stuff and our show got pushed up to about 10:30..Well we polished off all our supplies well before this and were working on some new found goodies. By the time Yes came on(which was well past 1AM) they were playing to a row of passed out dudes..I remember nothing of this show.We had one friend who kept things under control and told the rest of us what a great concert the rest of us missed the next day..

Frog was Mick Weaver on organ who later played with Joe Cocker and others.
