I've been working and reworking some stuff for my new solo demo and now I'm torn between two versions of the same song. If anyone could be kind enough to have a listen and fill in the survey that would be extremely helpful.

I tend to always go for the more unusual mixs so its ver2 with the hand claps for me /appl.gif

. ver 1 has better guitar playing, easier on the ear and more what I expected but it is more derivative because of that. Ver 1 also had more instant appeal but then I lost interest a little as the tune progressed. Ver 2 did not have the instant appeal (the first few seconds guitar playing sounded more scrappy), but my attention quickly focused as the hand claps came in and seemed to add a more laid back feel to the song - I get fed up with songs that are all angst. the syncopated style of ver 2 seemed to work better with the lyrics. Not meaning to be offensive but ver 2 benefited from the hand claps in the same way as 'stuck in the middle with you', the gerry rafferty song.

Thanks for the thoughts. Discounting my own vote it's current 6:2 in favour of version 2.

I'll need to do some re-tracking to polish up whichever I go with to get rid of some of the scrappiness, as there's a multitude of unwanted thuds and clatters on both versions... I was asking more to get a feel of which arrangement worked better.

What I'm finding interesting is people are telling me they like the vocal better on one version or the other, when it's actually the same take on both.

I like both versions, but I voted for version 2, as its funkier beatmight be a little more appealing, catchier if you will.
But If I were you, I'd put version 2 at the beginning of the demo and version 1 at the end, so the listener can get both different feels.

If you still can´t decide; go with both versions like they did on the classic Junior Wells Delmark album "Blues Hit Big Town".

I voted for No. 2 -- the mix lets the vocals come through a bit clearer and the percussion (hand claps) adds a good rhythmic element, though I think the claps could actually be a bit fuller.

both versions are good.
i like version #1 better.

i'm a stickler for hand claps
in songs. they are terrific enhancers
to most music of any genre, if they are
done right.

version #2, to me, started off much
more enjoyable than version #1.

but because of what i consider "over use"
and too much of the hand claps, it takes
away---and almost turns into just a "hand clap song".

at least to me.

once again---both are good.

version #1 is best to my ears.
