Well, my colleague who is in a couple bands and hosts a weekly acoustic jam at a downtown coffee house has been after me to come to one of the Thursday evening sessions (5-7 p.m.) and I finally took the plunge tonight. As someone who has rarely -- and I mean very rarely -- ever played with any other musicians, and rarely even in front of other persons other than a few house parties, it was quite an experience.
I'm still pretty buzzed at the moment, and it isn't from the one beer I drank -- though that was helpful in my giving in to the other players' prodding to finally do one of my songs, rather than just play along with them. I have no real idea what I sounded like, but it was well received.
Anyway, time to mellow out a bit -- the jam went an hour long and it was pretty tense going for me as I tried to keep up with chord changes on songs I'd never played before, and sometimes chords I never played before. Thank goodness there were six other players, including a lady playing a mean harp and a really good bass player who's a great singer, too. A couple women eventually sat in to sing, as well. So when I had no idea what was going on, I could sit back and play the shaker.
