Thought I'd add my 2 cents to this. I joined up here a few days ago too, and like Steeve and Blues Wolf I am familiar with this issue. My left hand (at least the thumb and those two fingers) went numb in 2006. I saw doctors and did all that was recommended to remedy the situation at the time.
My job consisted of heavy hammer, lever, and air-powered impact work on trucks and cars and my new boss figured I was just whining I guess. I continued working for 6 more months until I could get time off for surgery (the numbness was simply getting worse). I did have surgery to release the entrapped nerve, but the damage was done by then and i experienced no improvement. Short story: Boss was sympathetic to my face but figured out a way to dump me none the less. I was 60 at the time.
Back to the injury. It's nerve damage in the left wrist and hand and it still is getting worse. I've played guitar since I was 11 tho never professionally. I still play guitar now every chance I get. The difficult part is not being able to feel what your fingers are doing. Like you Steeve, I began studying slide, but I still play it upright.

I run a race, trying to learn and improve/adapt while the nerve damage gets worse. But since giving up a portion of my colon to medical science even more recently I've learned that playing is my best drug no matter how hard it gets. I figure when we have this kinda stuff to moan about we've paid our dues! We can sing the blues and it's ok no matter what it sounds like. I respect your determination Blues Wolf! You too Steeve.
