The blues world of Portland was out in force today to note the passing of one its best, Rick Welter. Memories were passed on, many musicians played, the family was all there and we know Rick was there in spirit. I even read a message to the audience sent by Mitch Woods, who Rick played with often in the Bay Area. John Nemeth was going to try to drop by on his way back to the Bay Area from Seattle, Rick was his guitarist when he was breaking out of the Boise scene.

The day opened with a duet from Jim Wallace and Whit Draper.

Besides the musicians shown here on stage, there were several others who performed, too.

The audience was also a who's who of Northwest blues, with the likes of the following who did not even make it to the stage:

Alan Hager, Andy Strange, Bill Chapin, Chad Rupp, Chris Olson, David Jette, Dennis Lusk, DK Stewart, Don Shultz, Dover Weinberg, Kelly Dunn, Kevin Selfe, Michael Osborn, Mike Klobas, Myuki Hamanaka, Pearl Woodin, Rae Gordon, Rich Layton, Stu Kinzel and Vyasa Dodson.

I was honored that my photo of Rick Welter sat on the side of the stage all day next to his guitar and amp as a candle burned in his memory.

Great photos Slim!! Sorry I missed the event, I had two deaths
in my circle to deal with this weekend. An ex-girlfriend and
her sister both died Friday night, one of cancer and one dropped
dead of a heart attack!!

Anyway, Rick was a class act and richly deserved this rememberance.
