This little song lit a fire
I grew up playing bluegrass. I play guitar and banjo. My heart was really in rock-n-roll but my dad and step dad both played bluegrass so I am guilty by association.
About a year ago I bought a Fender Strat. I started trying to learn old rock-n-roll songs I liked. It lead me back to The Rolling Stones. There are fascinating stories about those guys and their love of blues, especially in the beginning. I remembered always hearing how the blues influenced so many people during this period of time so I started exploring.
I'd never been exposed to the blues. Now... I think I've found myself.
I'm about 3 weeks in (yep, that green), and for every tid bit I learn, I find dozens more. I'm thrilled!
I guess I should ask my question before I get tossed out of the jam session for babbling, so here goes...

...the droning of the thumb I love! I'd like to talk about it a bit. Pointers, advice, places to study, etc. I can work out the chords and fretting easy enough but this steady *bomp bomp bomp bomp bomp* almost apart from the melody has me entranced.
I might add this is coming from a guy who can put on thumb picks and play a banjo pretty well. The 'rolls' are pretty, for lack of a better word, 'circular'. They alternate and reverse, and sometimes break up, but all in all they 'roll'. This kind of finger picking seems very different and is new to me. This song makes me feel as if I need to divide my brain in 3 parts. One for the thumb, one for the melody, and one for fretting.
Don't worry... I know there are simpler things to learn. I'm work on those too. This one just fascinates me. No rush, no worries, just making conversation
