Cut my teeth on Bluegrass guitar. Recently became inspired by The Blues. It's all new and wonderful to me. I love to chat. I look forward to making friends who also love guitar and finding a local Blues scene, events, etc.

You woudn't believe it !

Actually, when he was a sailor, my grandpa bought a 6 strings banjo and an acoustic guitar he played flat on his lap with a tube. Since he died before we were born, my brother who plays country blues and I always wondered what kind of music he played like that. As far as we know, it could only have been Hawaian music, country, or blues.

And my late dad did own records of Big Joe Turner and Jimmy Rushing, and I think Louis Jordan too.

I can play a 5 string banjo and guitar. I recently bought an electric guitar. It's surprising how different it is than the accoustic

I made it to The Blues via being a fan of Keith Richards and The Rolling Stones. I like that whole period of music. I kept hearing people mention being influenced by blues from the Mississippi delta. I figured I'd better come check it out. I'm about 3 weeks in to a whole new world and I really like what I'm finding. I know little to nothing about it but I'm having fun

Well it's a whole new world indeed ! It's not just the music, there's a whole history, culture, geography as well, social aspects too, it really is a world of its own and a fantastic trip to take !
I've been on it for a while myself and I feel I barely scratched the surface !

And that's only from a non musician point of view, imagine all there is to learn if you want to play the music as well.
By the way, there's a section of the forum called the Jam Session where musicians hang and talk shop. Since you're a player, you may want to pay it a visit.
Don't hesitate to start your own topics there (and elsewhere too), ask questions, share your thoughts, etc, it's what it was made for.
I hope you enjoy your stay here and become a regular.

Your enthusiasm is infectious, Hobo - love it! Please don't ever feel inadequate or anything of the sort. Folks around here range from old "famous" vets to rank beginners, and many of us who just love the genre. Hop right in, poke around, ask questions, toss out opinions - it's all good (oh, other than politics. We avoid that around here).

Great! Thank you! I hope to go to lots this year. I noticed there is one in Charleston in June. That's only an hour away.

Since you're a Stones fan (lots of those around the forum), you probably already knew that they got their moniker from a Muddy Waters tune. But I thought I'd mention it 'just in case'

I didn't to be honest. In the realm of fanhood I'm bottom tier. I knew they loved the music. I saw an interview of Keith Richards talking about meeting Mick Jagger on a train with a handful of those old albums and jokingly thought of robbing him. lol.

I come from a place of playing bluegrass and enjoying 80's hair bands, then backward thru The Stones and now Blues. I know bits and pieces about a wide range of music but I'm by no means an authority on anything. I just love to learn and I love good conversation

I must say they brought me here though

Hi Happy Hobo and Welcome......well into the Stones myself, they got me into the Blues and seeking out the old guys who were their hero's, all this was back in the 60's. seen them a few times over the years and been gigging for over 40 yrs thanks to them I guess. You have found a great place to get into all types of blues, ENJOY!!!!!!
