SORRY for the partial finish. computer fouled up.---Collins may have had relatives in Kentucky so he went there. But his guitar style has no simiilarities to Kentucky bluesmen. He does play pre-blues and rags also besides hard blues and was born around 1887 in Louisiana according to his death certificate. He died in 1949 in Chicago.
The fact that Collins played guitar behind Fox indicates to me he was like Texas Alexander--a singer who didn't play well himself and needed someone to back him. So Collins did and made the record better.
Many reissue companies including Yazoo placed singers in wrong states. William Harris was from the Delta but moved to Alabama--Birmingham where he recorded. He was seen in Tallahatchie Coounty by Hayes McMullan at Swan Lake and also there by another man I interviewed Frank Howard. He also was remembered in Grenada on Highway 51 to the east of Tallahatchie County. He didn't start singing about Alabama until his second session for Gennett .Gayle Dean

Hawkeye--I appreiate your comments and suggestions. I will get it done. It's just taking more time and energy to rewrite and insert several chapters. My Lady friend has come down with dementia (Alzheimers) and that is taking a lot of my energy and time with her. That's the most important event in my life now.
Also am committed to 2 small projects but making progress and will get someone to help me with the business end of Epublishing. University presses are dead for me and I will not try them again.
Just a note--The Patton book is being retooled slowly that Steve Calt and I did with a third party helping on it. But progress is being made on it also as it has to be retyped into a computer as Calt left nothing but the original manuscript on paper.
Lot of updates to be done on that also but we are moving on it and it is being
put on a word processor so insertions and additions can then be made.
Once it is in the computer format--rewrites and updates can begin.
I have been working the past few months on a major article update with a new researcher on a Delta bluesman for FROG's summer annual. It will be a major addition to present knowledge and more on that when the time is more near for publication this summer.
Hawk--See you on the road somewhere soon I hope and really enjoyed our meetings in Grafton and appreciate your encouragement and those of forum members. Unlike Mike McCormick my chapters will get published in some form.
I did print the final two chapters of that manuscript on Johnson in Blues @ Rhythm about 2 years back, but many may not have seen their publication.
