I've gotten nostalgic lately for a budget Slim vinyl LP I had several decades ago and I'm wondering if anyone here can point me to its current CD availability. It was an excellent LP with Matt Murphy on guitar and (if memory serves) a small horn section, maybe a tenor or two. Only cut I recall by name was "Pigale Love." Any clues? Many thanks!

These 1961 Memphis Slim recordings have been first released in 1962 on Strand SL/SLS-1046 under the title of "World's Foremost Blues Singer", then again in 1981 on LP as Muse MR 5219 under the title of "I'll Just Keep On Singin' The Blues", then in 2000 as CD on 32 Jazz and later on Savoy Jazz --- just google for the latter title and you'll find heaps of possibilities (CD and MP3) to buy !!!

Memphis Slim,U.S.A.....issued by Delamark was issued before 'The Comeback'...they are well-worth owning....Amazon or order from Delmark..

I have these 1961 recordings on a CD titled Lonesome (Drive Archive DE2-41007). Released in 1994, it has probably been out of print for some years though.

Sorry, late coming to this one...

I picked up a vinyl album many years ago in Liverpool (so it must have been at least 40 years ago) but later found the CD in a clear-out bin and it's the same album.

The title on the cover is "It's Been So Long" although one of the tracks has a slightly different title. Track listing is:

Lonesome
Cold Blooded Woman
One Man's Mad
Let The Good Times Roll Creole
What Is The Mare-Rack
Pigalle Love
Four Walls
It's Been Too Long
Big Bertha
I'm Lost Without You
I'll Just Keep On Singing The Blues

If it's not his most released session, it's certainly one that deserves to be. I've been listening to it regularly since ordering it (thanks again, guys!) and I can see how I remembered it from all those years ago. My sense is that this was one of his last US sessions with his band before leaving to live in Paris. Maybe that has something to do with it but the band just rocks like crazy. M.T. Murphy is especially outstanding.
