My buddy Lee Pons and a handful of other friends and BBF'ers are moving on! Included is the band rep from my society (Magic City Blues Society), Lefty Collins Band! woohoo!!! /appl.gif

chime in and call out your band, or the folks you know that made it......

I play mostly custom instruments, from my frankenstein tele to the handmade lap steels aka Sipsy River steels, Larrivee acoustics, Crate, and Mesa Boogie amps, Snake Oil Brand strings on my electrics, DR and Elixers on my acoustics.

Here are the semi-finalists announced last night at the conclusion of the two-night quarterfinals. By noon, they will be listed by club in the order in which they will appear tonight for the Friday semifinals. The semi-finals will be preceded by the Youth Showcases which begin at 4:00pm..

Every band from the Northwest moved to the semi-finals, as well as Roberson & Beese from the CBA and Back Porch Stomp from WBS.

If the other venues were anything like mine, it may be one of the best years yet. My venue alone, Club 152, had probably 7 of the 10 acts that could've advanced anytime, though the rooms were limited to only four. The ones I felt could do some serious placing in the finals, perhaps even winning it all were the four selected from my room: Stevie J & the Blues Eruption, Shaun Booker Band, Pryor Baird & The Deacons, and The Lionel Young Band. Shaun probably placed highest in my thoughts, but I would not be surprised if any of them came out as one of the top three.

The new procedure gives another night of hope to move on for many more than before. Good luck to everybody . . . but I am hoping for Lisa Mann & Her Really Good Band and Roberson & Beese to make the finals. They are our CBA reps after all.

Both Blues sur Seine reps, Awek and the Mountain Men, moved on to the semi-finals, which of course pleases me a lot.
But I'm also glad to see Lisa Mann and her band qualified too, as I was one of the judges in Portland when they won the competition to go to Memphis.
And of course I'm thrilled to see my crazy cajun friend Lee Pons' tremendous talent getting some recognition !

I'm still not sold on the extra night, but be that as it may, congrats to those who advanced to the semis.

The New Daisy Theater will be a cryin shame with the log jam that is there.
