I'm a Freelance musician/teacher. My professional music career started in 1966. I did a 4-hour gig with Mr. Jackson and made $60. When I told my Dad how much I made he went directly to Best Music store in downtown Oakland and rented a drumset. Since then I've played innumerable gigs and not just Blues gigs. In fact, I came to the Blues circuit by way of the Jazz Standards and Hard Bop schools. I found Bar Blues first in 1960's East Oakland with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Mississippi Johnny Waters, Big Bob Deance, Lowell Fulsom, and Johnny Heartsman all of whom with I have played. I played drums for over thirty years and on Halloween 2000 I suffered a stroke. Unable to play drums I fell back on my musical training and started playing keyboard. You'll notice I didn't say piano... that's because I play keyboard and not piano. I don't have enough fine motor control to play with my left hand. Yet! It's been 10 years and I'm still working at it, and actually I've made some real progress.
But I digress... Currently I teach beginning guitar, beginning piano, drums and rhythm, and basic music theory in the After School Program at an elementary school and in the Kids College Program at San Joaquin Delta College both are located in Stockton, CA. I also, conduct the adults Blues Band 101 class at Delta. I front my own band, "The Groovenators", and I am the Musical Director of "The Joyful Sounds" a Modesto based gospel band. In both of those bands I play a Roland AX-7, commonly referred to as a Keytar. It's an amazing axe and Roland just recently released an updated version that I'm planning on acquiring soon.
Anyway, that's a little bit about me.
