I have the J.S.P. with Jimmy Rogers and I have the Fanclub c.d.
but for the sake of asking..Were those the only recordings Left Hand
Frank had issued? (I also have the Alligator comp)...thanks!

Did he ever record singing as "Donald Duck"? He used to do a great version of BB Kings Sweet 16 in the cartoon characters voice. Also be played the best version of Hideaway of anybody I ever heard play it. Frank also worked as a comedian in Indiana from what I've heard although I never asked him about it.

As far as records, other than the couple Alligator tracks I have no idea. I know he did have a couple of records out.

'The Dirty Duck Blues' is a half spoken/half sung humorous dialog between Cub and Frank,who sings snippets of 'That's Alright' and 'Sweet Sixteen'.
Sure enough a serious contender for girls who just want to have fun.

Coincidentally, I have a video of Left Hand Frank performing "Hideaway" in Mexico City when he played there with Jimmy Rogers, Big Walter Horton and others in the late '70s. I've just uploaded it to youtube here:

I used to see Frank weekly for several years asleep in a booth at Louises South Park Lounge sleeping to the music of the Aces. I had no idea he was a musician. Then one day he picked up a guitar at Florences and boy was I surprised!

Frank was one of the unsung greats of Chicago blues guitar. He could play pretty chords too. He had meat hook hands; his fingers were a whole joint longer than mine. (I have a picture of us making the comparison.) When he was in Donald Duck mode, his favorite thing to say was "gimme some whiskey, sh*t!" He also did an excellent "Dirty Mother Fuyer" a lot like Magic Slim's version. He was a real character and it didn't always serve him well, but he sure could play guitar.

Left Hand Frank! Wild man for sure. Saw him get in a big hassle back in the day when he wouldn't shut up and pissed off some gangster types......I worried they were going to take him outside and off him......Boy, characters like him are further and fewer in between these days......

On the gigs I played with him I think it was a Les Paul Jr. or possibly a melody maker. I never saw him play a SG that I recall. It was solid body Natural dark reddish mahogany finish.

I just found some pics of Frank with Walter Horton in with the pics I'm storing for a friend. He's playing a white Les Paul Jr style guitar but I think it's a copy. Can't read the headstock but maybe a Univox or something wierd like that. Also just picked up a book because my photo was in it and there was a pic of Frank playing an SG. I don't recall him playing an SG but who knows.

I'll post the pic in a few days when I get time.

Wow, cool photo. I think the brand is "Knockoff." Funny, just having a neck pickup is more of a jazz guitarist's setup. Maybe there's another pickup beneath his hand -- or not.
