Hey Matt,
You are soooo right, the rest of the world is not wrong ! I have seen some really exciting 0-0 draws, 1-0s and 1-1s, although we all want to see our teams win, I know it's a cultural thing, but I don't want to see my team win 72- 69 if you know what I mean, don't you guys get bored watching your teams score points what seems like every few seconds?, some of the scores seem really silly 94-87 etc. although I know this does not count for all american sports (or does it?).
By the way, my team Millwall (The Lions) lost to Brighton & Hove Albaion 1-0 today,
which I believe you would say in the USA is a bummer!

I would have to disagree about two things--1/-soccor/football in the usa being mostly for girls and 2/ the sport not ever getting BIG here in the states---i recently took an early retirement from 17 yrs of working in a Park and Recreation district in California. I worked in turfgrass maintainence for sporting fields and when i began that job we had a youth soccer program that had about 200 kids involved and an adult league with 6 teams. By the time i had left the youth program had about 2000 kids -both male and female- and a saturday program with six fields that had games every hr starting at 8 am and going all day with the last games a 6pm. The adult program had grown to 4 nights a week with 3 lighted fields and four games a night per field. Little league baseball has kept that game going no matter what the big boys do to screw it up---and if you follow the papers you will know that they do ALOT----football has also BOOMED with the growth of youth football programs---pro football before PopWarner ball was tiny compared to the game of today---this will happen with soccer too---Our kids---and our grandkids--dont look at the game as a foriegn import like those in my generation have done and by the time they get to adulthood i am willing to bet big bucks that soccer in the USA will be big business and attracting huge audiences---it should get even bigger then either football or baseball as there is world wide competion and a HUGE talent pool .

Mark my words the "football" of Americas future will have TWO looks!! one in helmats and pads---one in shorts and tees!!!

On cricket---i lived for a quite a while in Jamaica--when i got there i didnt understand the game at all--and everyone i knew loved it. Finally i went with some rasta friends to SEE a match---and its a great game with amazing skills and stratagies---BUT---know matter how you dress it up--NOTHING is more boring then listening to a 2 or 3 day cricket match ON THE RADIO!!!!

And WTF is up with the Bums moving their Triple A team to Las Vegas and calling them the "Area 51's"? Talk about a laughing stock. I guess they juice up with rocket fuel.

Hiya Tiki,
I am glad to hear what you had to say about the state of football in your part of the usa, the only thing that bothers me is that if your country does become a big force in world (and I mean world in the proper sence, unlike your world series !)football, that FIFA the governing body will be under a lot of pressure to spice the game up, I can't see you americans watching a 0-0 draw or a 1-0 for that matter, which in my humble opinion would spoil the beautiful game for the sake of cheap thrills. I speak with my football hat on, I am a season ticket holder for my team Millwall, who play in the english championship in South London.

I have to disagree about listening to criket in the radio, over here we have BBC radio 4 who do test match special, and they do commentry on one day and test match cricket, its great stuff, very english and I supose quite stuffy, but it is very common for people to turn the sound down on the telly, and stick test match special on the radio, you may like to give it a go as I am sure that you could pick up a broadcast on the internet in the summer.
I also worked in parks over here for about 18 years, I am now a health & safety advisor for the national health service (NHS) based at a large London hospital, what do you do now?

Bluesy1---since leaving the park i have moved to Oklahoma and have spent the last 18 mos building my own home---a geodesic dome---that is FINALLY nearing completion---i live next door to some dear friends who are LONGtime blues musicians---actuall DC is a 3 time hall of famer and a winner of a KBA from the blues foundation---i am a Boardmember of a nonprofit group called--Friends of Rentiesville Blues---FORBlues--we maintain a juke joint that has been going since the 1940s and for the past 14 yrs have produced the Dusk till Dawn Blues Festival every fall---3 days---actually nights--of 30 plus bands--with an emphisis on Texas/Oklahoma/Red River "Hot box' style" blues---with featured artists that have included Nappy Brown. Hunert Sumlin. Cary and Lurrie Bell.Joanna Conner.James Peterson and LOTS more---we are active in the Blues in the school program and are planning on some expansion into camps for kids--and master classes with DC and Tony Mathews--a nother local but who played guitar for Ray Charles for 18 yrs---we also do jam sessions at the club and have an afternoon Jam band twice a month for ALL ages that is really fun. After i finish with the house i am planning in buy cds froms all the nlues folks i know wholesale and marketing them at blues festivals around the country---think it may be a fun way to make a living--would LOVE to oine day take about 2000 cds from folks here in the states and go off to Europe and do the festival circuit there!!!----in the meantime i just have try and make ends meet!!! like the rest of the world and keep on keepin on!
