BlueGuitar mentioned Freddie Blassie recently and it brought back alot of memories for me.
Anyone else here on this forum a fan of the old vintage great wrestlers of yesteryear??
As a kid in Jacksonville, FLA and San Diego, CA, I was a huge fan and went to the matches at the Coliseum every Friday night for years. I used to collect autographs and even got a Destoyer mask one night when he was unmasked in the ring.
Some of the greats I remember seeing in action are:
Freddie Blassie....The Destroyer.....Dick the Bruiser.....Dickie Steinborn.....Killer Kowalski.....Mr. Moto......Hiro Matsuda.....John Tolos.....the Iron Sheik.....the Great Malenko......Bobo Brazil.....Pedro Morales......Lou Thesz.....Antonio Rocca.....Buddy
Rogers......Bruno Sammartino and Edouard Carpentier.
And the great tag-teams......the Graham Bros. ( Eddie,Luke and Dr. Jerry ), the Kentuckians and the Von Brauns ( Kurt and Karl ).
The championship matches in a steel cage.
And, of course, the midgets.
Anyone else have any classic recollections ??
Anyone remember the announcer, Dick Lane ?
Here in San Diego, I remember Freddie Blassie beating up on an unknown interviewer, Regis Philbin. LOL
