Well, I'm glad you guys enjoyed the adventure into Doug Clark and The Hot Nuts-Land.
I saw them a few times and the whole idea, besides dancing to a great R&B band, was to get yourself and your date close to the stage so that maybe Doug Cark would pick you out and insult you during the "Hot Nuts" song ... it was hilarious ... sorta like a raunchier version of the insulting/ascerbic comedy of Don Rickles put to a great R&B band ... and honor to be insulted by them.

So, anyway, for many years I performed/toured and recorded with one of the mainstays and mentors of the blues in Oakland, CA, and my good friend and 'blues daddy' ... Haskell "Cool Papa" Sadler ... "Cool Papa" had lots of great original blues songs ... and some of them were very nasty (and always fun/funny). The band loved to play those songs because he gave us back up parts that the audience was encouraged to join in on ... here's a couple of verses from one of his orginal nasty songs:

In the first photo, top left:
This is not a 'joke"/set-up photo ... "Cool Papa" could get down in this position with his guitar, after first being on his knees and pouring a mixed drink down the neck of the guitar like it was a woman taking a sip ... Playing superb blues solo the entire time ... then I'd hand him a drumstick and he woud continue his solo on his knees using the drumstick instead of his right-hand picking finger to play the strings ... still playing great lead guitar ... then he would slowly get down into the position you see him in in this photo, and wiggle his butt while still playing great guitar ... behind his back and laying down ... and somehow he could get back up to a standing position while playing the whole time to finish singing the song. Truly, what amazed me always was that he did not sacrifice playing hot lead guitar the entire time he pulled off this antic ... hemanaged to do it al and stil be playing ... like I never could or will.

I still don't know how he did it and I saw him do it so many times I can't even count. I've tried to show this maneuver to friends when taling about the great "Cool Papa" ... and to this day I can't even get into the position he's taken in this photo WITHOUT my guitar.

In later years, as his health failed due to diabitis, he had to eliminate this from this bit of showmanship from his performances ... he said to me many times, in serious/jest ... "Hawkeye, I just kain't do that routine no mo'. Gettin' down is easy, but gettin' back up is near impossible."
