The blues is one of the main foundations of modern music and can be heard in many different forms around the globe. Just looking through this forum you can get a flavour of the rich history of music that has been produced over the years. Each generation has influenced the next and continues to do so.
While there is a lot of discussion about what happened to the blues or what is the future of the music, I feel it is important to highlight that there have been some outstanding albums released that are blues based. Therefore I have created this thread to bring some attention to “post millennium blues”. The albums you will read about are favourites of mine that have been recorded and released since the year 2000. I intend to cover a variety of styles so some of the albums will be close to traditional blues, others will be blues combined with rock, soul, jazz, country, folk even pop! I hope you enjoy. I’m also keen to hear feedback but I'd politely ask that you don't tell me it’s not blues if your viewpoint is narrower than mine.
I also intend to cover albums from Europe as well as the USA, and when appropriate further afield too, so hopefully there will be something new in there for you...
Feel free to add your own album contributions too as the only boundary I have set to this thread is that the album must be post 31 December 1999. I hope you enjoy these reviews and that they prompt you if necessary to have a listen to the artists features.
When starting a thread like this it is very hard to know where to start. To me a blues album must feature several key components – a respect and recognition for the music in the genre that has proceeded it, a true blues feel, some damn fine songs and great instrumentation that enhances these songs, rather than being more than the song itself.
Hopefully you will see all these in the albums that follow, but each of these qualities is epitomising in the first album I shall mention: “We Can Get Together” by the late Sean Costello.
