Anyone out there in Tube land using a reverb pedal??
I'm looking for something that'll take the place of My Fender Reverb unit, so I can use My Victoria Bassman and Alamo Embassy live.
Running into too many cramped stages and too many clumsy feet @ jams.
Any suggestions???

My pal John Edmonds has been using the TC Electronics NR pedal with his Ceriatone Dumble Clone and it sounded pretty good.

However, he has now chopped it in for a Holy Grail Nano, a tiny little pedal which sounds really natural, is very compact and seems to do the job quite admirably. Pretty cheap, too.

I have a BOSS reverb pedal for the moment, but actually promised it to a friend, he wants to go stereo and has a Holy Grail, I don't need stereo, so...

I also have a Roland RE-800 lying around in another friend's rehearsal space, that one has reverb and delay - I should get it back one day, this is one of the early 19" effects which don't sound too digital

when I use that one I go straight into the amp with the guitar, out of the second input into the effect and back into the next input on the amp (4 input Tweed Deluxe clone) so I preserve the tube sound, but still get some 'verb in there

if you have to think about it, you might as well forget about it

I us the Deluxe Reverb simulator pedal. Not the greatest by any stretch, but the features and compactness make it work for me. I run it through a Fender Pro Jr.

Nothing will replace your tube reverb.
I like the HG pedal, but only for a spare.
Why can't you put the tube 'verb on top of the amp?
Does it cover the knobs?
I have a homemade box for my tube 'verb so I didn't feel bad about cutting a piece out of the bottom for access to my amp controls.
I also made the feet taller so it would sit on top of my amps without rocking on the handle.

On My own gigs, there's no problem, My gear doesn't get trampled or in anyway abused by clumsy drunks. I sweated blood for what I have, anyone fool enough to mess with would lose theirs.

To cut down on size, weight of load in, as well as set up time, and invariable someone (Usually the drummer) will trip over the reverb tank and/or the tube echoplex, I'm looking for a good sounding verb pedal.

Gotta Holy Grail, verb is pretty good, but those get a whine to them that can't be fixed.

Oh Yas, preferablly battery powered, most time on sit ins and jams, no time or no outlets for plugging in beyond the amp.

This is not what I want to hear. I have gotten myself back into shape, after a long layoff, to where I am ready to start going to jams. I have a Victoria Bandmaster and Fender Tube Reverb. What a beautiful combination. It's very easy to plug in, as you know, but is it the size and shape of the reverb that bothers you? At home, I have mine standing on its side next to the amp.

If you really want to go the pedal route, have you considered a delay? Boss and Maxon make great delays. Before I got my current set up, I would use a little bit of delay to add ambience to my sound in an other dead room.

I tried a Holy Grain and thought its sound was terrible. But it is small and maybe when the band is playing you won't notice the quality of sound too much.

I used either the now long discontinued Guyatone MR2 and the Digitech Digiverb. The Digitech has a pretty good spring reverb setting. I'm still looking for one that will emulate the sound of the classic tube reverb known as the Premier 90, the deepest outboard reverb ever.

I am happy with my Danelectro Echo pedal.
It sound enough like true reverb for me.
It cost well under $20, maybe 16, I forgot.

EDITED: I just noticed you addressed your question to "Tubeland". Sorry. I am not in TubeLand, I am in TransistorLand.

Ah Les, just lost in the wrong 'hood, eh ???

I have seen several new 'verb pedals in Guitar mags, such as one by Tech 21.
Last Guy that kicked my Fender Reverb, even tho by accident, recieved a head slap.

Last night was a perfect example of My situation: Open Mic, people on and off stage every other song. Everyone coming or going has to pass by My rig. I normally bring My Deluxe Reverb, so there's not much floor space taken up.
That's a good thing as at one point we had 7 jammers onstage, plus a conga player offstage. That stage is about 4 people good, comfort size!

Since this jam is the only stage time most of these folks get, the enthusiasm sometimes exceeds the skillset, much less any professionalism.

There's been some pretty good ideas and devices mentioned all .02 is appreciated!!

I already got a great reverb and vibrato built into my '72 Fender 'Silverface' Super Reverb'- but there's a fantastic Vintage guitar/amp/effects Store near where I live that has some terrific Reverb units- they ship out all over the world- but you can probably get them at your local music store as well- i dunno- anyway-Check these out and see what you think- they got a great sound.

The only unit I have used some is an older Alesis mini or micro verb? with some
nice sounding settings and is extra nice with 2 amps. I also use it as a volume
overdrive boost as well. It took a little bit to get used to dialing it in but most of
these effects do.

I think I've still got one of those tucked away somewhere... I remember it being a very neat, uncomplicated reverb without a single bad sound on it, so maybe I should dig it out sometimes and give it a try.

If we're veering away from pedals for a minute, the other one to try, if you can find one, is the Peavey Valverb, a tube-driven spring reverb and tremolo unit in a nice 1U rack unit with a chrome front panel and chickenhead knobs. Got one of those somewhere, too, that doesn't get enough use...

I tried a Holy Grail a couple years ago. I thought was a darned respectable reverb but I just couldn't find a way to make it quiet. I took it back to CG and we tried another on one of their generic amps. It was quiet as a mouse in the store but when I got it home it just wouldn't play nice with my "real" amps.

I can see where a pedal would be easier in some situations...

I don't trust pedals. I have an outboard tube spring reverb amp head sized unit by Matchless I use. It was pretty darned expensive. I use it with my 50's Gibson Invader that does not have reverb, but even with my 60's Gibson Invader that has reverb, I'll combine the two reverbs for a very dreamy effect.

I'm not totally happy with the Matchless though. It gets noisy and dirty after many hours of use and has to have maintenance - with a capacitor replacement, etc.. If I were to buy another outboard reverb I'd probably buy a 60's Fender which I believe would be more hassle free.

Here's a method that's unscientific and I don't recommend but based on my experience.......twice in the last 30 years I've had amps that took a nasty spill only to sound waaaaay better after they fell.

My old Peavy Classic was completely generic until it fell out the back of my station wagon into the hiway-I scooped it up and assumed it was done but it somehow had a better tone and I used it for another 10 years!

Last year my cheesy Acousti-sonic Fender got knocked off it's perch in a bar and again I thought it was curtains-indeed I packed it up. I took my fancy custom built Torres in for a repair when I discovered the Fender not only worked but sounded BETTER than ever! I'm using it instead of the zillion dollar Torres as we speak......

Both "accidents" seemed (perhaps it's my head but...) to give the amps a kind of "natural" reverb I can't seem to get! I have the Fender tank, have a digitech pedal, etc.

So in the event you have an unused amp you've given up on...........no more than 4 feet for a direct drop and not over 30 mph out the back of the car!!!!!!!

I'm investigating into a Tech21 Boost R V B.
Good revues, so far, but havta TRY one first.
The micro verb does have some good reverb sounds.
Spent years trying to score a Peavey Valverb to no avail....

... and the beat goes on.......
