Is anyone else as infatuated with these albums as I am? I stumbled across these gems on Emusic, and I'm hooked. They're exactly as advertised; raw, bare-bones electric Chicago blues recorded in a live setting (most were recorded in the 70s, I think). Every one I've manage to get ahold of so far is great.
Does anyone have any additional background info on how these albums came to be? They alll have a very similar sound, as if they were recorded in the same setting (maybe the same club?). They seem to be snapshots of a pretty particular place in time in live electric blues, so I'm interested in getting to know a little more about them.
Off the top of my head, so far I've got releases in this series from Jimmy Johnson, Johnny Littlejohn, Magic Slim, Willie Kent and Willie James Lyons, the Aces, Bobby King and Jimmy Dawkins. They're all worth getting, in my opinion. Definitely check these out if you're in any way a fan of live, raw electric blues.
