Makes for an interesting read.

BTW You touch on how a white guy would feel unsafe walking into a juke joint, very true, but I imagine a Black guy would risk much more peril walking into a honky-tonk.

Well, to be honest with you...I never really had any trouble going to predominantly black
clubs or juke joints. Sure, every once in a while somebody with a little alcohol in them might say something, but that happened in predominantly white clubs as well. I always found if you carried yourself in the right manner most folks could care less. They might glance at you when you first walked in, but after the novelty wore off, they didn't pay you any more attention than they did anyone else. After awhile I became a regular in those places and everyone knew me & grew accustomed to my presence there.

I know just what you mean.
And another point to consider, some places are just plain rough, whether in the big cities or tucked away in the country, you could get yourself hurt even if there were no such thing as race difference.

I love the Juke Joints here in Houston....Great food, most of them are BYOB and the atmosphere is awsome.

That's something that was a real eye-opener in Austin, the BYOB thing. Around here that would get you thrown out at best, and maybe spend a night on the county's tab.

Never put off til tomorrow what you can do the day after.

A lot of places back home in MS used to be BYOB...they made up for the loss on liquor by charging higher for set-ups...it's not very common anymore unless it's a private club.
I can remember hitting the after-hours bootlegger joints out in the rural areas & drinking beer out of peanut-butter jars! They would usually have a couple of refrigerators in a backroom that were filled with beer, malt liquor, & cheap wine. We'd sit around a table drinkin' & tellin' stories till the sun came up! Sometimes we'd play dominoes, cards, or shoot dice. I guess you can say I received my informal education in some strange places! LMAO!

Great story 'Dawg, there are some good ol' boy bars in this neck of the woods that are stay away places, unless ya like fightin. Seems some folks just can;t get enough of it. It's usually in the small towns, with two or three bars. They've been run out of the others. You are right, the way one carries themselves makes all the difference in the world.

It was a sad day here when the Utaliban outlawed BYOB-it was called 'brownbagging' here. There reasoning was that if all the bar sold was set-ups, then there was no one to hold liable if someone got drunk and caused some wreck on the way home. I still pretty much always have a 1/2 pint of yager with me, though.

Ain't no way in the world I'm goin' out that front door...
