There must be someone out there out of 600 members that follows Horse Racing!

telling some people that I'm a Blues nut, gets some "Oh! you poor man" looks,-- try telling them that you gamble too!

Sorry Taff, I'm not really a horse racing buff. However, I do enjoy a good close over the fences race.

There was a very dry Motor racing marshalling 'joke' that normally raised it's ugly head after a day's tedious practising with no more than 2 cars on the circuit at anyone time.....
How come they never show the practice for horse racing?

Believe me you have to be terminally bored to fully appreciate that one.

I don't follow it like I used to. I do watch the Triple Crown races, but don't know any of the horses usually.

I did read "Seabiscuit" though.

Labman! Thanks to the wonders of the internet and an account with Betfair.com*--I have the opposite trouble, knowing too many horses, e.g. this weekend is the Hong Kong International, and my money will be going on Antonius Pius, (hoping that he will go one better! (second in The Breeders Cup Mile)

*Betfair is not a Bookmaker, it's punter against punter, so remembering horses is a must!
Will have to be a change of plan!---Antonius Pius has been drawn stall 14! thats out in the bloody car-park!

I don't follow horse racing, but I do like to watch it every now and then.
When I was growing up, I had some neighbors in a little podunk Arkansas town that were getting into it. Training and jockeying, and all that.
Some years later, I saw one of them riding in the Kentucky Derby, that was pretty cool.
A few years ago, I was visiting his Mama, and she gave me a couple of his trading cards. Didn't know there was such a thing. I read on there he had made over 50 million bucks in his career.
Then I remembered passing down some of my clothes, cowboy boots and things to him when we were growing up, he was a pretty small boy. We were all poor, and helped one another along.
Now that I think about it, I may hit him up for a new pair of snake skins when I see him again.
Man, that's the blues.

BlackOak, I may be wrong but that could be the amount of prize money he has won in races, of which he would get a percentage.

That makes sense to me. I suppose a percentage of that would be pretty good, tho. How much of a percentage do you think goes to the jockey or trainer?

BlackOak, I don't know how much they get your side of the pond but if he's still involved in racing I'm pretty sure he could see alright for a pair of boots!

Karyobin, I prefer the flat/turf, but this time of year I have to do with all-weather providing there is a "draw" bias, some good racing from Dubai the last 3 weeks, I use the betting exchanges, haven't been in a bookies for ages.

Too late to get the "price" on that one? it's now 12/1, but the stable has had a virus, so I've picked 2 more-----Timbera....20/1 and Hedgehunter.... 25/1 (both e/w)

The Louisiana Derby on Saturday! "High Life" the favourite at 5/2? after two runs! no way I'm having any of that, I may bet on "Indy Storm" 20/1 (place) if any of you guys "over the pond" have any clues/tips, lets hear em!

but the Flat/Turf season starts on Saturday here in the U.K. so I'll be playing Crudup's "Will I be Lucky" and "Black Pony Blues"
