We have been so moved by your many touching words and I have been drawn back again and again to find comfort in your posts. Cal and his older brother, Dylan, are both extremely talented musicians and we have always been proud of them. I have always enjoyed the blues but never to the extent of Cal and he has educated us immeasurably these past few years. The BBF will forever hold a special place in our hearts because of the kindness and encouragement your wonderful community have shown our son. Feel free to contact me anytime and know our lives are so much richer thanks to you. We found the following photo while creating memory boards for Cal's service and honestly don't remember taking it. Deepest Blue Posts: 494 Jun 8 08 9:29 PM	Cal was probably five years old in the photo because of his missing teeth. Our boys have been surrounded by a wide variety of music since birth. I'm mainly a Rock & Roll guy (sorry) and love Bluegrass, but also enjoy blues, folk, jazz and any music that sounds like it's from the heart. My wife grew up with classical music and show tunes along with her older siblings 60s musical influences. I had a few blues cds, including Jimmy Reed & Robert Johnson which Cal discovered a few years ago and man, he was gone! He immediately asked me about other blues artists and took to the internet. He discovered everything else on his own and we visited every library, bookstore, website and Cd shop we could find. You guys also educated him and it's fun to go back and read his posts in the trivia threads. You made him very happy! "Give Peace a Chance" Westlake, Ohio

He reminded me so much of when I was about his age and found the blues. I really liked his enthusiasm for the music, and he actually knew alot more than I did about some aspects of it. I'm gonna miss talking to him. It was like a breath of fresh air to see someone so young that enthused about the music. The thing is that we're all music lovers, and we also know that without the Blues, there'd be no rock'n'roll. Simple as that. In the Blindman's Cafe section, you can indulge in whatever you like outside of music too, and get to know most of here. As you surf through this site, I'm sure that you'll see that we've lost several other members too over the years, but they were in the "long in the tooth" variety like a lot of us are now. Most of them had a chance to say good-by to us in one way or another, but none of us were prepared to have someone as young as Calvin to leave so suddenly. On the other hand, I don't think that I'm saying anything that you don't know already, and so I'll just sign off now, but do drop on in as much as you would like. As you may have seen, we have a forum devoted entirely to jazz (Cal participated actively in that forum too). You can discuss rock here too with Zot and others. There hasn't been much discussion here of bluegrass that I can think of, but I bet that we have quite a number of fans here. I have always liked bluegrass, myself, even if I don't listen to it as much as a lot of other music. Muddy

Deepest Blue Posts: 3147 Jun 9 08 11:21 AM	CD, calvin was fortunate to have you and your wife as his parents! some of us found our way to our favored music by different avenues, but to have parents who liked a wide range of music, and to have been exposed to the LOVE of music early on, i think that may have been key to his enthusiasm. some years ago i lost a dear musician friend, not long after i joined here. and when i posted about it, i was given the same support you and your wife experienced here. this created a bond way past the music we prefer. suffice to say that the folks here have a deeper compassion than most forums i have ever been a part of. calvin was way ahead of me as far as history and sometimes enthusiasm. there have been some times i just wanted to chuck this whole blues thing, it can be tremendously frustrating to try and move forward as a high function amateur or semi-pro musician. but to see his love just shine- well it just got me around a corner several times. i do hope, if it is not too painful, that you can post pics and memories of your time with your son and our dear friend. you are more than welcome here, as we adopted cal, we adopt you and yours also!
