I agree with Tanta 100%.

Bonds can get away with murder,just like OJ did.

Neither should be in any kind of Hall of Fame.

Sadly--i agree---it pains me tremendously to see this happen but now that the suspicioins that we have all had for so long turn out to be true, i dont know how records that are so tainted can be kept---even if they pull the "*" trick in the record books----i know that years ago --after seeing folks --like Bonds and others--suddenly put on 30 lbs and increase the neck sizes by 2 inches and thighs by 4--i wondered but dared not speak for fear that it was true--i know that i follow Mark Macguire from when he was in AAA with the Stockton Ports and there was a year that suddenly--he was huge! I fear that we have not heard the end of this and that the list will get larger and larger. It is sad---hope this doesnt derail baseballs return to the hearts of many Americans !

i fear that this is just one of the problems that sports of all kinds will encounter now that atheletes make such enormous sums---ie just look at the latest basketball news--more on brawls then scoring--and tell me---how does a coach hold sway over a guy with an attitude and paycheck 10 times higher then the coach--"Threaten me and i will just find some other team willing to pay me a gazillion and move on. I hope that the leagues---all of them find some way to reign this all in.

It's pretty sad to see this but it had to come out. These athletes have no idea how dangerous these steroids are going to be to their health. Although it is not quite in the same category as the steroids professional athletes use, a steroid I was on following my kidney transplant until about 6 months ago, prednisone, which is very commonly prescribed for a number of different medical reasons, including for extremely severe asthma attacks (I do have asthma, and my mom had it a lot worse than I did, and I had to take her several times to the emergency room for oxygen and she was given prednisone in addition), and the dosages have to be very closely monitored by a doctor and it can and is quite addictive, and it has to be very gradually tapered down or the rebound effects can be quite frightening, even more so if you attempt to stop it cold turkey. It does cause mood swings (at times, quite radical at that), and in addition to that, they are notorious for putting on weight, fluid retention, and raising your blood sugar levels very high, and if taken for a long enough period of time, it can and does cause diabetes, and if you are already a diabetic, it can also worsen the condition, and I'm sure many of you may know some of the consequences of having diabetes to figure out what can happen down the line. Too many professional athletes trying to get the big contract quick really aren't thinking with the right frame of mind at what will happen to them down the road with their health, and what good are those multi-million dollar contracts once your career is over with and you have to suffer for the rest of your life!!!

I've taken Prednisone before.
It makes you eat like a Horse.

I have a couple of Severe Allergies and it was given to me because of them.

When I take Steroids,I only do three things.....
Eat,****,Kill !!!

Those of you who have taken Prednisone know what that 2nd word is.

Not to play Devil's advocate or anything, but Barry Bonds using steroids has absolutely nothing to do with his hand/eye coordination - and that itself cannot be discounted even though he's basically admitted to steroid use. Steroids will help you hit a baseball longer distances but I don't think there's any proof that associates steroid use to better hand/eye coordination, or better eyesight.

And I tend to agree with Tanta. Major League Baseball has long known that many players have taken steroids... Mark Maguire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi, and countless others, and that's also why the players and the Player's Union are against random drug testing. But, baseball's revenue comes from fans paying for tickets and authorized gear (shirts, jackets, bats, balls, etc.) and those fans buying the inflated ticket prices want to see home runs. While all other sports have summarily put an end to steroid use, if Major League Baseball follows suit, I think they feel that they will lose a major part of their income.

I don't condone the use of substances to enhance any sports player's performance, but the Commissioner's office knows that home runs and home run hitters will continue to sell tickets. That probably explains why baseball is the only holdout on outlawing steroids.

I'm not gonna argue the point with you but,

1.Cheating is cheating,no matter what you call it.

2.Hand-eye coordination doesn't put the ball over the fence,Strength does.

Steroids increase Strength NOT hand-eye coordination.

It's that simple.
Bonds,amongst others used Body altering substances to gain an advantage.

It smells like Cheating.

It will be considered cheating ONLY when Major League Baseball outlaws the use of steroids, and while the Commissioner's office is aware of steroid use, and long have been, there is still no rule that bans players from using them. And if you look at my post above, you'll see that I said steroids do not enhance hand/eye coordination. There's no doubt that Bonds hits the ball longer and has more home runs than other players because of steroid use, but his overall batting average is from hand/eye coordination. His home run count is only a part of his average. While it's not pleasing to know he uses steroids, he's still a great hitter.

BW--if there is no rule against using them how is it that the Yankees can get away with canceling Giambi's contract?--which it appears that they are doing.I know if i had Giambi's money and lawyers there would be hell to pay if i was fired for something that was legal to do---or does Steinbrenner have a "No steriods clause" ? Seems that the players union would be up in arms too,but i havent seen them coming to anyones defence yet. Are you sure that the league has no rule against their use---or just that they dont have TESTING?

As far as I know, there is no rule in baseball that states a player cannot use steroids - the Commissioner's office says they take a dim view on it but they do not have the teeth the numerous multi-million dollar players do. And I don't know whether George Steinbrenner has a "no steroids" clause in his contracts - but it is entirely possible. I do believe (currently) that team owners have a little more control on things than the Commissioner's office has...

I'd like to read a player's contract (someone like Bonds') but I'm afraid I'd have trouble understanding all the legal jargon - not to mention it would probably take three months to read entirely.

The steroid situation in baseball is similar to the hockey lockout. The bottom line is that it's the multi-million dollar players who control the game.

Man oh man--aint THAT the truth!!!!!!---ie bball players that strangle coaches and get away with it----rookies that make more in a year then all time greats did in a lifetime!!!! Seems to me that you ought to PROVE you worth it before you get more then folks in Hall of Fame did---ie--Brian Boswells football career!! He made more money NOT haveing a career for what 1 yr then folks like My man Mcellhenny from SF did in his who career!

Free agency really got this stuff going crazy with the salaries, if you sit and think about it, and the pressure to perform for those salaries and once free agency began, the one owner in baseball who began overpaying everyone to get players for his club before any of the other owners, even freaking bench players, was George Steinbrenner in the mid 70's, and only a decade earlier, the highest salary of a baseball superstar was about $100K-125K tops, and then Steinbrenner began paying millions to them, and with the outrageous salaries, the pressure to perform gets heightened that players use of these things eventually became too tempting to resist at the risk of their own health. The onus goes on players, but a good portion of that onus also belongs to owners overpaying players too and looking the other way, so long as what players do puts people's butts in the seats, so IMO, the owners ain't exactly scot free here.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that - but it does seem like a mighty nice way of allowing players to continue using them. It's basically a rule with no enforcement. As mentioned earlier, since the players control the game and the Commissioner's office, I can't see MLB having any effect on changing the drug-testing situation (or lack thereof).

I've said it before and I'll say it again-as a class, baseball owners are the most ruthless, despicible, lyingest, cheatingest, double-dealingest, backstabbingest bunch of good-old-boy networking, politicians-in-their-back-pocket sons of bitchs who have ever drawn a breath. Just look at the former owner of the Rangers. The Commish? The current one is an owner, or at least probably not on paper, anyway. He is an employee of of MLB, paid directly by the owners. I know that the guy who signs my paycheck is always right. Until baseball loses it's exemption from anti-trust laws (and that will take an act of congress) the owners will continue with business as usual. Steriods? As long as asses are in the seats, who cares. It certainly couldn't come as a surprize to anybody, these latest revalations.

BTW, it's now less than 4 months 'till opening day. I'm already getting excited.

Ain't no way in the world I'm goin' out that front door...

I'm with Pritch........I'm a baseball junkie, and there is something missing from my life in the winter. I just sort of hibernate and wait for spring. Just hope my M's do better this year. They were godawful in 2004!
As for Bonds, Giambi, and doubtless many more........is it any real surprise that they did steroids? We all knew this, yet I for one watch the game fervently anyway. The players union is too strong for anything to happen to these two cheaters, but they've sullied their reputations in the eyes of millions. In the end, that's enough for me. They are the ones that have to look at themselves in the mirror every day and know the disdain so many hold for them.
