Document Records released a Rufus Thomas collection consisting of his early material (1950-1957).

I've never, ever seen an R&B CD from Document Records. Has this been done before?

I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding of the situation is that any recordings more than 50 years old are public domain in Europe, so a compilation of tracks from 1950-1957 would certainly qualify as fair game for Document. I'm actually surprised Document hasn't started doing cheap-o compilations of '50s Chess, Vee Jay, Sun, and the various Bihari bros. labels yet. Maybe they have, and I'm not aware of it...

This is a matter of individual definition; one could class much of their wonderful Jesse Thomas CD from a few years back as R & B.

Ah, that's right. He had some west-coast kinda stuff on there.

However, since Rufus Thomas didn't record at all as a country blues artist, I think this is kinda a different scenario.
