That's basically what I'm doing now, it's just figuring out the stuff that's not a traditional I-IV-V open chord/bar chord type of thing. I know I need to be sitting in front of somebody saying "Show me how you did that" but I thought I might be missing something.

I've tried playing the scales to the metronome, and in 5 minutes I wanna jump out the window, so I'll put on some Blues and practice for an hour and everything will be cool, then a song comes on and I don't even have an idea where to start. I think a lot of it may be they're playing a major scale instead of the Blues scale, but I just don't know.

I watch guys playing and they're playing a chord and I have no idea what that chord is and I can't figure it out. I know experience will help, I just gotta get off my toosh and get someone to show me!

Oh yeah, this is just the minor pentatonic. I can play this up and down the neck, but it just seems that's all I can do.

I hear guys playing stuff that's different than this (I have the Blues music channel on the TV cable, so I turn that on and jam to that. It's when they seem to be playing out of the box that confuses me).

Problem with playing the pentatonic is that I seem to be playing the same licks most of the time, kinda in a rut, so I'm trying to figure out A: when I practice how to get better (I know, I know! if you've done it 1000 times, do it 1001 so you know it in your sleep) and B: what other things I should be practicing.

I had a friend who'd play different scales over a I-IV-V and I asked him what he was playing as it wasn't the basic pentatonic/Blues scale. He said it was just stuff he'd picked up over the years. He moved away before he could show me what he was playing, so just trying to figure out where to look and what to play.

Also, when I sit and play to the songs on the Blues channel or a CD. Do I play one song over and over and over..... and just keep practicing to that song until I'm sick of it but can play to it without thinking, or do I play to different songs, or do I do one for awhile, then another, then go back to the first one?

Again, if we met at a gig and you said "bring over the beer and pizza and I'll show you what your missin kid" (Oy, I'll be 52 in March), what would you show and tell me?

Thanks all for the info. Sounds like I've been doing it basically right, just need to modify it a little.

Other than the minor pentatonic and Blues scales, any other I should have down? I mainly play Blues or Blues rock, so don't need to worry about Mozart type stuff.

Guess I'll break out the #)(%#_ metronome again! LOL
