First of all, I'd like to link you up to this great post-war blues and R&B CD site.

They sell 34 volumes of the hard to find collection "Stompin", which each contain 20 tracks of hard to find R&B. I own volumes 2 and 32.

I'm looking for one of their own CDs to purchase. (The one's that are oddly colorized or just black & white.)

There are so many! Help me out here.

There's a lot of fantastic recordings here.

Knowing your love of Piano Red, I'd suggest you start with a couple of other pianists:

Champion Jack Dupree "Blues For Everybody"

Amos Milburn "Greatest Hits"

I've had that Dupree album, originally on the King label, for 35 years, and it's exquisite and fun.

One MAJOR caution: this company's prices stink, they are way too high. Many of their CDs can be found on amazon.com for nearly half price. The Dupree title I recommended is usually found in bargain bins for $7 or $8.

Yeah, I found the Stompin' CDs for about 5 bucks cheaper at a local record shop.

I love Amos and Champion Jack.

I own a 3-Disc set of Amos and a Blues'N'Roots CD of Champion Jack's early 1940s barrelhouse recordings. (But not much from his 1950s period.)

The Sony Blues 'N Roots Dupree set is good, but you need to RUN, not walk, and buy Champion Jack's "Blues From The Gutter", which are his greatest recordings, recorded for Atlantic Records in the late 50s with a great band, with superb songs reflecting the title quite accurately as the lyrics deal with Dupree's heroin addiction and the like...

Simply a stunning recording:

This one isn't a stone classic like the Champion Jack, but it's got some wild stuff on it. Little Walkin' Willie really tortures the sax fronting Frank Motley and his Motley Crew for the first six tracks and Jesse Allen(guitar/vocals) with Red Tyler on baritone sax, Lee Allen on tenor, James Booker on piano, and Earl Palmer on drums are featured on the rest of the CD. Sound quality is a bit rough in places, but the music is a lot of fun.

I am abit biased but.....The Nappy Brown Savoy two record set is just ne of the best things going...His new one well...I cant say for fear of sounding obnoxious but the 2 record set is amazing.It is on Savoy .

I've seen that one at The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame's CD shop. I came very close to buying it last week, but I went on a pre-war binge instead.

If I may, in case you plan to order more later, this Junior Parker CD on the Classics label is simply great.

I've come very close to purchasing that one as well !!

But there was another Junior Parker CD at my local Borders Books & Music store, so I bought that one instead.

It consists mostly of his '50s Sun Records recordings and some of his 1970s stuff.

I know both of them but I only have Billy Wright's "Hey Little Girl" and the songs of Joe August's that are on the Proper Records set: "Gettin' Funky"
