Posts: 353 Dec 4 07 7:53 PM	The 2007 Monk and Trane at Carnegie Hall awards this year (or released for the first time in 2007 but not of 2007) go to: Keith Jarrett � My Foolish Heart Miles Davis � Live At Monterey 1963 Charles Mingus w/ Eric Dolphy � Cornell I was going to take the easy way out and just put these three in my top ten for the year but that wouldn�t be fair and how do you rank an all time classic? My Best of 07 list: Enrico Pieranunzi� Live In Japan Sam Yahel � Truth and Beauty Chris Potter � Follow The Red Line Kenny Werner � Lawn Chair Society John Abercrombie � Third Quartet Fred Anderson � From The Ocean To The River Antonio Sanchez � Migration Donny McCaslin � In Pursuit Dave Douglas � Live At The Jazz Standard Steve Kuhn � Live At Birdland There were at least 10-15 other titles that didn't make this list that could have, but I wanted to limit the list to just 10. A great year for new jazz, one of the best years since the mid 70's possibly. Jazz isn't only alive and well it smells pretty good also.

Deepest Blue Posts: 2056 Dec 21 07 10:28 AM	I've been living with the Charles Mingus Sextet At Cornell 1964 for the past few weeks and it is the outstanding historic release/reissue of 2007, IMO. Perhaps this would make a good Album of the Week feature soon. McCoy Tyner Quartet. Joe Lovano ably carries a great deal of the solo load here. I love McCoy's compositions, especially this new vesion of Walk Spirit, Talk Spirit. A vital document from one of our national treasures. With jazz musicians, as with poets, there's rarely a "famous' artist that Mr and Ms America know (aside from Wynton), only less obscure. My New Year's Resolution: Listen to more in the way of contemporary artists. So keep those "best of" lists coming.
