Bill Holman is not exactly a household word. I can't even pinpoint where I've heard him, other than with Stan Kenton. As it turns out, there's a Kenton Track and a Terry Gibbs track on the 4 CD West Coast Jazz boxed set I bought recently. I've been buying West Coast Jazz, as much as anything because it's one of the styles that first attracted me to jazz in the 50's. Jerry

You had to be there in the fifties to know how widely acclaimed they were. Only one of their albums is available on CD, but I have at least four lps. Here's an even less helpful clue: their vibe player now lives in Florida and recorded a Christmas album which someone sent me, that I haven't listened to yet. His dog's name is Beauregard. (That last clue, I made up...) Jerry You figure out the name of the group, and I'll tell you the musician.

Posts: 1539 Nov 10 07 9:25 PM	Hey, Lowell: I'll give you that one. I didn't know that Illinois Jacquet played bassoon, because I'd never heard a recording of him playing one. The musician I was thinking of was Errol Buddle, who played tenor sax and bassoon with The Australian Jazz Quartet. No, I'm not a Mormon. On a whim, I added the Elder to my moniker in here, because of what some family and friends started calling me. My name is Jerry, but someone started calling me Jeremiah The Prophet. Some other people picked up on it and now several people call me Jeremiah. I had nothing to do with it. I am neither a prophet, nor an Elder. I am fairly old though, in comparison to many of the people who post here. Older, but not necessarily wiser. It just means that the jazz of the 50's means something different to me than some other younger folks, because I was in my upper teens and early 20's, and that's when I first started getting in to jazz. Looks like we both learned something on this question. That's why I enjoy this place so much. Jerry the Older (if you're more comfortable with that..) Your question now...
