Ok, so now that the season has kicked off I figured that it was time to start a thread devoted to the college game.
My favorite football factory fell flat on its face last week. I really wasn't sold on Michigan being a top five team, but didn't see that coming.

My home team the PITT Panthers don't have a lot going for them, can't seem to cut 'em loose though. The highlight of their home game this coming weekend is that opponent Grambling State is bringing their band so halftime, at least, will be way cool.

Got my weekly gigs out of the way tonight & last night so, all I got to do for the rest of the week is mow my yard and wait on the LSU-Va Tech game Saturday night.

Good first half for Marshall leading WVU 13-6. The Herd opted to rundown the clock for a fieldgoal to close the half instead of taking a shot at the endzone with 12 seconds left. We'll see if WVU makes them pay for the conservative call when they get the ball to start second half.

I don't have a real good feeling about my team this year, especially since they sucked so bad last year. They had to fire and then hire some new coaches. But we still have Bobby Bowden. We lost by 6 last week and the game today is on ESPNU..Whatever in the hell that channel is at 5:00.

I still root for them but will say I'm cautiously optimistic. But I say Go Florida State anyhow.

ESPNU should be located around ESPN and ESPN2 on your TV.
WVU managed to pull that game out in the 2nd half.

Got some Ribs cooking for the LSU/Va Tech game tonight.

WVU did score to start the half, but the Herd kinda stayed with them for a little while 'til the 'eers put them away 48-23. It was an enjoyable three quarters to watch.

Wow. A complete Michigan meltdown. Dixon, the Oregon qb looked great.

Lots of entertaining first halves.

Boise State goes down for the first time since 2005. Washington 24 BSU 10.

Oregon 39, Michigan 7

Normally, I couldn't care less about college football, but I do live here in the Northwest and so I do take note (along with a grain of salt

) about what goes on with the local teams.

While I wasn't emotionally involved with the game, I did note the media response to this game in that it was all about Michigan. How they screwed up, and what is wrong with Michigan? That they couldn't do anything right, and that there season is now over with, and changes need to be made. Almost no word at all on Oregon's game, effort, or talent level. Like they were just there to provide Michigan with an opposing team so that they could self-destruct. It's almost as if Oregon was a non-factor in Michigan's meltdown. No love at all for that team from the upper Left Coast. Curious, no?

I'm an Arizona State fan and trust me we do not take Oregon lightly.

You're a Pac-10 guy, and so you're up to speed as to what's going on out here. That was a EPIC @ss-whooping !!

LSU ran up 598 Total yards on the "vaunted" and much bally-hooed Va Tech Defense and handed Va Tech their worst loss in 25 years !!!

God, I loved that game so much I watched it twice !!

I like the Pac-10 and think they could be strong this year. ASU and UW have been personal favorites since I was a kid and I'm always drawn to USC even though I usually don't wanna be. I do agree with the bias that Zot speaks of, but can't get too upset over the treatment Oregon is getting. They looked good, but that Michigan team(another personal favorite) is BAD. They lost to a 1AA team at home when ranked number five in the country and looked like a trainwreck coming in. This was their story and the Ducks were the sidebar nationally.

The Big 10 is consistently over-rated and I had trouble buying the Wolverines as one of their elite teams. In my mind the SEC is the best conference overall year in, year out and they don't get the pub the little eleven does. Dixon is an explosive force and the rest of the team looked ready to roll, but I gotta see how the Ducks fare in their conference schedule before coming to any conclusions about them.

Ironic thing is that just a little over 10 years ago, there was serious consideration given to the idea of pulling both Oregon teams OUT of the PAC-10 because they felt that the Oregon schools would never be able to compete with the other schools in both being able to draw talent and financially. That the Oregon teams would never have a program as strong as the other PAC 10 teams no to mention the other well known Division I schools. The pundits who were proposing this felt that the Oregon teams might do better in the Big Sky Conference.

For the longest time, both Oregon teams were the doormats for the rest of the PAC-10 teams as well as all of the other Division I teams. The couldn't even beat good old San Jose State back then. Now look at them.

As for 2007, it remains to be seen as to who will shine this year. Right now, only OSU and Stanford seem to have problems this year, but the rest remain to be seen.

Someone in downtown Ann Arbor mentioned that Michigan hasn't won since Bo Schembechler died. Very telling...it's the ghost of Bo!

The SEC is easily the best Conference in College Football.
Look at what happened to Ohio State last season.
No one gave Florida a chance against Ohio State (well, no one except yours truly;)
Look what happened there.

and right now, I don't think LSU is afraid of any team in College Football.
This week's AP Poll is a joke. USC is over-rated and they'll suffer the same fate that Ohio State did last year.
