Hello there,
I'm Quatermass, named after the genial professor from British Sci-Fi and I am something of a novice in the Blues world having to it via Jazz and Rock. Favourite artists include Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith and Keb'Mo.

As some, if not most people on the forum know I don't like Muddy Waters or Keb Mo.

As much as I love the blues, there's something about those two that just bores me. (especially Muddy)

I'm sorry I will never like Muddy Waters I've given him so many chances on so many different occasions from so many different eras of his career and I can't enjoy it for more than 2 minutes!!

Calvin, never say never.

I was a teenager when I first heard pre-war blues and I hated it.
I was 30 when I really fell for blues music but I still didn't like it.
Now I'm quite fond of it, though not as knowledgeable as you in this area.
I know Muddy wasn't pre-war, but I used this era as an example.

But if you live a hundred years and never get to like Muddy, well, so be it. It doesn't make you a bad person at all. God, there even was a time when I didn't like BB !

welcome to the best blues forum on the net Quartermass. BTW I like the name, I remember a really old UK TV movie in Black and white about Quatermass -an early attempt at SciFi I believe -it left a big impression on me.

Muddy Waters -I didn't get this till my 40s. It just didn't feel right to me. Now it does.

And I'm ALMOST absolutely my opinions of all of Muddy's recordings, save for the '41-'42 and "Got My Mojo Working", will be the same.

Hey Quatermass, sorry that your introductory thread is being hijacked like this, but since it's a very interesting discussion (a 14 year old walking blues encyclopedia and all in all blues enthusiast doesn't get Muddy Waters), I'm going to open a dedicated thread in the blues hangout.
