Been enjoying the Ace reissues of his Modern records so now I am curious about his lone Chess LP, Jimmy McCracklin Sings. Has this never been out on CD and that is why every time the vinyl appears on ebay it goes for a crazy price? I've seen it up a couple of times recently and it went for $100 or so, and the latest time just a couple of days ago the winning bid was over $257! Is it really that great or is it just its rarity?

I'm getting the feeling I'm never going to get a chance to hear this one.

It's the rarity. If you pay for the vinyl (and I don't think it's on CD), the P-Vine is better musical value because it adds two great Lafayette Thomas vocals.

Not being issued in CD is one factor that will drive up value. Another is being a Chess release. There are many Chess completists out there and they can drive up prices on discs that otherwise would have less value. So you'll essentially have three groups of people bidding up a disc. Chess Collectors, McCracklin fans who just want to hear the disc and those looking to complete their Jimmy McCracklin collection.

Trick is to find someone who owns the rekkid and who's willing to burn you a copy.

You mean to tell me "I'm getting the feeling I'm never going to get a chance to hear this one" was too subtle a plea?

I just found a McCracklin discography and it looks to me like the Charly compilation Everybody Rock has ten or so of the twelve tracks on the LP. That might be a start at least, even though I can't even find it listed on Amazon.

Charly did issue a McCracklin CD that contained 18 tracks - 4 of which weren't on the P-Vine LP. However, the 2 Lafayette Thomas tracks which were on the P-Vine are not included on the Charly CD.
The Charly CD might be the easiest one to find.
