We've been friends for over 30 years, and have shared a lot of jazz and blues, although we're both primarily folk musicians. I don't what name he'll use as his moniker in here, and he just applied last night, but when I spot him on the new members welcome I'll have more to say. Like you, I'd like to see more folks involved in the jazz club. Jerry

I am a professional musician -- blues is what I do all over the world but I have an excellent organ jazz group that keeps quite busy around town (Detroit). I also co-lead a wonderful little big band which you can listen to at www.myspace.com/planetdnonet Like many people, I grew up listening to Cream, Allmns Bros etc in HS. I accepted an invitation to join you that was posted at the MSN group that I am a member of called "Jazz Music Fans" which will be moving over to Multiply.com in late January. I'm glad to see that Jazz still lives on and even flourishes in these times of rap and pre-programmed idol pop crap. My fave jazzers are Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, and Thelonious Monk, but I listen to hundreds of other artists and enjoy their music as well. Deepest Blue Posts: 1539 Dec 13 08 5:42 PM	Some of my favorite folks on here. 'Tis the season. Maybe I can start a thread on Christmas music, if someone else hasn't already. I've rarely checked in for the last couple of months because I've been focused almost completely on getting my book published: The Gate of Beautiful, Stories, Songs, and Reflections of Christian Life. The cover is designed and they're doing the final formatting. By the middle of next week, they may have it ready for a final proof-reading and printing. In the meantime, I'm all geared up for Christmas, and as soon as that's done, I'll be focused on getting my website up and running to promote my book. And then.... it's time for me to work on a new CD. I do listen to jazz, r&b and gospel occasionally, but don't seem to find the time to post on here. I enjoy posts that talk a little about why folks enjoy the music, and wish I could get to know folks better. I've had the pleasure of getting to know Rene, Jeff Tedford and a couple of others more, and that's one of the reasons why I enjoy coming in here. I love music, but I love folks even more. Threads that are just endless lists of what folks have listened to with no personal comments don't really interest me much. It's kinda like talking with bird watchers. I'm not much into lists. I'll try to be a little more active after Christmas, but in the meantime, I send wishes for a Merry Christmas to everyone who wanders onot this thread. Now I'll see if there's a Christmas music thread. Jerry Oh yeah, I just order a 4 CD boxed set of Elmo Hope. Don't ask me why. I've never even heard him.

Deepest Blue Posts: 30580 Dec 13 08 9:27 PM	Tom, I understand your concern, but lately, the few Jazz CDs I've purchased, ordered, etc, are CDs I've seen recommended here, so from my point of view, the listening to thread works. Not to contradict my friend Jerry, who, btw, I salute as he rushes through this board. But the little comments, or even sometimes no comment at all, but just posting the picture of an album I had forgotten about, or even never heard of before, but then it's the line-up that makes me want to know more, all these are reasons to make me pull the trigger. When I get these CDs, and listen to them, most of the time I can't think of a thing to say that hasn't been said already. Another thing is I probably suscribe to way too many threads here on the BBF, and when I open my emailer and there are so many "Topic Subscription Reply Notifications", I try to read them all, but I will seldom post. (Yeah, I know : hard to believe ). I still enjoy this club, enough to keep coming back. Besides, it's filled wth much more knowledgeable members than me in the genre, so I'd rather watched and learn. Interested, these days, in jazz musicians who can really play the blues, though in my judgment there are few who are convincing (see the trombone thread) -
