Calling all BBFers! I need some help trying to figure out there I can even get a copy of this box set.

It doesn't seem to be available through any of the usual suspects (Amazon, Half.com, Oldies.com, etc.).

Thanks, Billy! I knew someone would come through. I figured with 10 CDs it would be pricey. 10 CDs of Jimmy Reed definitely seems like overkill, but when I bought a Reed compilation this weekend, it made me realize that I can keep buying compilations forever, but I could just cut to the chase by getting all of his VeeJay material.

Maybe I'm missing something here. 10 CDs 115 songs. I'm not a Jimmy Reed expert by any means, but doesn't this work out to about to about 35 minutes(give or take) per CD?? Somebody correct me, if I'm wrong, but I don't recall Reed recording a whole lot of songs of over 3 minutes a pop.

You're right on the money, Stewball. What Collectibles did was assemble a box set of Reed's VeeJay albums, the key word being "albums," so a lot less running time than a CD. I guess in an effort to keep things historically accurate (or to sell more CDs, LOL), it's a 10 CD box set that could have been put on 5 CDs (or less).

I'm thinking the 3 CD set from Snapper is a better value. It has only 75 tracks, but it's a third of the cost of the Collectibles set, and it's much more widely available.

This whole quest for the Collectibles set has instead sold me on the Snapper set. LOL

Since Collectibles isn't one of those historic reissue labels, the money is in a box set that packages 'original' artwork, track order, and liner notes from LPs in CD form. If they looked at it from a true collector's standpoint (as their label name suggests), the set should have been done in chronological order, similar to how Classics (or a number of other imprints) puts discs together.
