Well, it seems to be a pretty common thing. I love seafood myself, and used to work as a fishmonger.

As a young man, I had a friend named Lindsey, who would always ask me if I wanted to go fishing for �Coney Island White Fish�. Now this has nothing to do with the Blues, except that Lindsey and Mr. Johnson were speaking to the same metaphor.

My parents had a 78 of this as a fast-paced, jazzy Calypso song sung by a man. Mr. Google says the Andrews Sisters sang it. I can't quite imagine it that way, especially with these lyrics:

I�ll bet the 78 your parents had was by Hold Tight (Want Some Seafood, Mama) by Fats Waller. The Andrews Sisters had a bigger hit with it, and they made it sound so innocent in contrast to Fats, even though the lyrics were the same. Reminds me of a story my dad told me :

Being born and raised by the Mediterranean sea (Marseille) he and his buddies used to bathe in the sea a lot when they were young.
It wasn't polluted as it is today (late 20's, early 30's).
One day, while swimming underwaters, he saw a huge bunch of muscles stuck to a rock.
As he loved muscles, and he didn't have anything to put them in, he stuffed as many as he could in his bathing suit.
What do you expect ? One of them "bit" (actually pinched) him right where it really hurt !
He said it was several days after that episode before it stopped hurting !

Duffy Bishop snuck an extra unlisted song on one of her CDs called "The Oyster Song." It gets requested at almost every show she does. Disgusting little humor piece about how an oyster looks just like a loogie.

According to Wikipedia she and her husband Marv now play in The Oregon Trail Band and they're pretty popular in that region. Have you heard them? I really liked Quarterflash. I saw them open for Heart once.

Those are indeed the lyrics of Fats Waller's recording.

But Sidney Bechet used to say that they played a version of "Want some seafood, mama" down in New Orleans way back when Fats was still a little boy.
