Posts: 3874 Feb 28 07 4:08 AM	We went to his pad in Nashville some years back-I was introduced via Christine Kittrell who had known him very well and performed with him in the early 1950's in Nashville. He wasn't bitter as you might expect but did feel he'd worked a lot harder to survive and put up with a lot of crap. Not sure exactly how he felt about some of the late career honors he got-he had something of a different take on things in "private" than he did when he knew the press was involved. Amazing career and surely someone who lived a unique life-not really ever embraced by whites and resented by blacks. A great musician/entertainer. "playin' the blues without any shoes....."
