Hey Jeffery -

Talk to me a bit about the SBBS when you get a minute would you? I'm a blues musician ( blues harp player ) over in Lompoc, so we're a stones throw man... and heard about the SBBS on occasion and even checked out the website at one point- but was mostly interested in hopes of finding more opportunities to find other blues players and/or bands to hook up with in the Santa Barbara county area; even if only in occasional jam sessions et al. Is there a feature with the SBBS where musicians can make themselves known or available to other blues players or bands? Let me know amigo! Hoping to find a blues band who may be on the lookout for a blues-harp player. Playing now on odd weekens and such with the Gary Mendoza Band at "Cisco's" in San Luis Obispo... but not a steady/full tilt gig and winding down since Gary M. relocated to Sacramento with his other business. Anyway- gimme a heads up man.

Thanks, Guys. Yes, we are the oldest Blues Society in the country. I'm glad to have been with them all that time, back when guys like James Cotton, Robert Cray, and Hollywood Fats played at our local bar. We've grown a lot, and our Blues in the Schools program opens the minds of schoolkids to the blues, black history, and just good music in general. Over half our funding goes to that program.

Butchie, I like your idea of a spot on the site for musicians to meet. I'll talk to our webmaster about that. Meanwhile, I'd love to jam some blues with you. I'll be in touch.

Frightening to imagine what would have happened to the blues genre had the societies not formed. All the best and thanks for establishing a much and thankfully copied format and example for others to copy.

I can recall about 30 years ago being in Sacramento California and wandering into a Dixieland Society convention-show and literally fans from all over the world and bands everywhere and mentioning to my pal Birdlegg how great it would be if blues had something similar!

laz is the guy who's held that blues society together with tons of help
all those years. he couldn't have done it without the help of past
dj's like the blind dj greg drust, and local support all those years.

tons of radio support by the local college stations, as well.

Got your email brother, and sent you a reply this morning. In case you get to this first; you bet! Would be more than hip to getting together for a session man!! Sounds like we're on the same pages stylistically speaking, and who knows- we might get a good thing jumpin' between the two of us! ( ? ) As I'd said too; I'm thinking that lots of folks check into blues "society's" hoping to find ( among other good things ) a means to locate and connect with other local blues players. That's the first thing I looked for when I took a look-see at SBBS, the San Luis Obispo Blues Soc., and Sacramento Blues Society. By long ways 'round the barn a body could eventually find other players to hopefully connect with via these society's, just to jam, or moreso for full-on gigs... but none of the blues socieity's I'd looked into so far had any deliberate or direct feature where a blues player could put an 'ad' up on him or herself, or look for other players with the same hopes. Like a want-ad type link... so players could find each other out. Anyway... looking forward to hearing back from you amigo. Till then...

Well now hey sis... please dont overlook the one aspect from these SBBS posts- that being Jeff and me working on a get-together to play... and with a least some hope of maybe even forming a blues group. As I understand, you are in Isla Vista then? I'm in Lompoc, and Jeff over your way too! Are you already with a group, or playing on your own? If not- are you at all interested in any such possibilites? Heck, one of the first ingredients after a blue streak is proximity! Let me ( us! ) know!!

Redbeansandrice was refering to my Sister, who lives in I.V. She has lived there more or less steady since high school let out. I think she was class of '66 or '67.

I lived in northern Cali as a little kid, but when I moved my whole family did, too! No one there for me to visit now - they're all right here.

Who woulda thought CA would have the first blues society!

Never put off til tomorrow what you can do the day after.

Surely will make a point to meet you at the Lonnie Brooks thing on 3/3! Sorry too, for the whos-who mix-up in the lat post. Thought you were the sister in I.V. being refered to!

About SBBS membership- I filled out that diddy online on the SBBS website and when I clicked the final button not sure what was supposed to happen next. There were no questions for credit-card info or anything else about how to pay dues, so expected something else would come in an email, but nada. ( ? ) I'll want to join, along with my lady-friend ( 2 memberships ). Being as how you'll be at the SBBS members table figured you might answer my question. Would like to get membership squared-away before 3/3... but if paying-up can only get done that day that'll be cool. Let me know either way. Also- I'm taking it that Warren Hall will be generally wheelchair accessible? Most joint have to be these days. H

On that same note- had to finally bite-down-hard to decide not to try to make the BBF gig at the "Club Ebony" in Indianola, Miss. in July, on account of there being no clear idea or adequate info about wheelchair access there, or even whether the EC even has wheelchair accessible restrooms! ( It's an old joint- and built back when most gimps stayed home, so no telling! ) I was going to drive there- but with all these un-certainties about the layout on the other end ( and apparently no way of finding out for sure? ) I thought it'd be a hell of a note to drive that many miles & days only to have to do a turn-around!! Hard number- 'cause opportunities like this dont roll past every day!!

Give me a heads-up about the SBBS membership when you can. I'll see you on 3/3!!
