His "Billy In The Lion's Den" album on King with Bill Jennings has some great stuff on it, especially the title cut; too bad it's not on CD as far as I know. He has some Chess material on an old anthology LP (South Side Tenor or something like that) and had a nice single on United too (Leo's Boogie). Chicagoland

Deepest Blue Posts: 9634 Jan 18 07 6:22 PM	Yeah, sadly I agree Leo is an under appreciated talent, and I can�t help feeling unjustly so, I mean the man was a mofo on the baritone sax. I only have one of his recordings as a leader �Let Me Tell You 'Bout It�. On Blue Note Say scottcable and rshurman, I�ll tell you guys what, were in good company, �cause folks like Illinois Jacquet, Sir Charles Thompson, Dexter Gordon, J.J. Johnson, Dizzy Gillespie, Coleman Hawkins and Billy Eckstine appreciated his playing too. Leo was really in demand as a side man. Rebecca, Rebecca, get your big legs off of me, Rebecca, Rebecca, get your big legs off of me, It may be sending you baby, but it's worrying the hell out of me.

Deepest Blue Posts: 872 Jan 19 07 10:37 AM	Leo also did sterling work for Savoy. His work has often been reissued under the names of his sidemen - Dexter Gordon and Gene Ammons. The original version of "Settin' the pace" pts 1 & 2, normally thought of as a Dex recording was led by Parker. My favourite is "Rollin' with Leo" What a sleeve!!!!! And the music matches! MG

Posts: 876 Jan 22 07 3:07 PM	Rollin with Leo is an incredibly hard CD to find. I think it is a classic too.Someday people will go ..Damn that Leo Parker was great!
