I'm a big fan of the Putamayo world music record label. Recently, I came across a blues compilation they released that features music from all around the world. This, like every Putamayo album, reminds me that music is a universal language.

That is a big "ditto" here as well. I have become very fond of the Putamayo compilations. I have really enjoyed their latest two compilations : "Blues Around the World" & "Acoustic Africa" (sp?) They have previous Blues compilations which are just as good. I am quite a fan of their work. They are completely responsible for my new appreciation for World Music.

I think I'll have to grab a copy of that one. Their more standard blues compilations tread too much familiar gorund but some of the left-field stuff (Blues Lounge and From Mali to Memphis come to mind) is fantastic.

Definitely...I really gravitated to the female vocalists on "Blues From Around The World". Honestly, I love hearing the international interpretation on American Blues music. Thanks for reminding me. I need to put some tracks from that CD in my listening queue again...and again....
